"...The Soviet Mosin-Nagant 91/30 is a prime example, and can still be had as an arsenal refurb for under $100..."
Just got one from Cabela's. $99.95. Built in 1943. Came with a hardly-used bayonet that, when attached, makes the total length about 5.5 feet. Taller than my wife!
Yeah, that's another little set of goodies that I got, gratis. The bayonet, canvas sling, dual oil/solvent can, cleaning tools, and dual ammo pouch. I got mine through J&G, standard arsenal refurb (a '31 Tula), for 80 stinkin' bucks, and the serial numbers even match. Check on eBay, and you can usually find packs of stripper clips that only cost about a buck per clip. Highly recommended, and so cheap that you don't get upset if one or two get bunged up during use. And if you're of small stature or have a bum shoulder, I'd invest in a recoil pad. Those big rimfire loads like to make an exit with great fanfare.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."
