11:1- One Woman On Blago Jury Was The Hold Out!

Share We’ve all been wondering how in the world Blago could have escaped the other 23 counts he was charged with. Today, it has been revealed it was an 11:1 vote and the holdout was a woman who could not be swayed. Chicago Local News writes:

“Overall, I’d say everyone was pretty respectful. In the beginning, it was a little more heated, a lot more emotions, voting was defensive. And then we checked ourselves and took emotion out of it,” said Sarnello. “To me, it was pretty clear where we were gonna end about the third day.”

They ended in mistrial on 23 counts.

Despite the division, according to Sarnello, the 12 came very close to convicting Blagojevich on the biggest alleged scheme: trying to sell the Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.

It was 11 to 1. The holdout was a woman.

“She just looked at things a different way,” said Sarnello.

He says at times jurors were getting hostile towards the holdout juror, but then they realized that she would shut down if she felt attacked.

“We’d listen to a tape and people would be like, ‘wow, that just confirms that he’s guilty’ and she’d say, ‘that just confirms to me that he’s not guilty,’” said Sarnello.

He wouldn’t identify the holdout juror because she’s been through enough.

The accusations are already beginning to fly… was she paid off, threatened, politically motivated, or truly convinced-even in the face of all of the evidence- that he was innocent? I’m sure a lot more on this will be revealed in the days to come, including the woman’s name.

Women freed OJ, the Menendez Brothers also. Maybe they should not be on any Jury.

It would be interesting to know who this juror works for, is she a union member and will she soon have a “fortunate” financial windfall. If I were to bet, I would say this juror and/or her husband are staunch union members, registered Democrats and soon will soon be living well beyond their current means.

re: juror be threatened or bought off on a high-profile trial?

I guess I'm just naive, but at first blush I would think it pretty hard to get away with that in these days. But now that you make me think it through, you're quite right. Sad.

Thanks for making me revisit my thoughts on it.

Next question is can they get away with it? I guess that depends on who is investigating and how serious they are at getting the truth. Again, sad.

When it happened in J. Gotti’s trial, iirc, it was a bribe.

Collectively women are the majority voter that is putting Democrats in office. They span across all races. They are the emotional voter. My wife votes the same way I do except for all the bonds for schools and parks they issue. They hook her emotion and she votes yes elevating the tax payer load for these bonds. If we want to turn things around, they all have to be stopped. Female emotions are killing us.

According to an earlier thread, the jury reached a verdict on only one count. The jury hung on all the other counts.

I know many with a not so elevated IQ who have much more sense and recognize a con when they see it. What you want to see is more times than not the issue.

And...your wife is obviously a sound emotional voter. I like schools and parks, too. Better to give to them than to phantom districts and no bid contracts.

Without education, you would live among MORE idiotic Obama voters. And a lot of families live in apartments or in urban homes that don’t have yards for their kids to play in. You want my kid to play in the street?

There’s too much spending going on, but not for schools and parks.

I could sit on a jury that accuses you of breathing and hold out on my ‘belief’ that you are not.

Our system relies on a juror’s good faith. It they do not act so, it is not a matter of failed prosectuion.

The failure would have been with the prosecutor’s jury selection. I’ll grant you that.

Blagojevich was set up from the beginning. If political horse trading is going to be a prosecutable offense then every politician should be in jail. He was singled out because he refused to play ball with the Illinois power brokers.
