11:1- One Woman On Blago Jury Was The Hold Out!

Share We’ve all been wondering how in the world Blago could have escaped the other 23 counts he was charged with. Today, it has been revealed it was an 11:1 vote and the holdout was a woman who could not be swayed. Chicago Local News writes:

“Overall, I’d say everyone was pretty respectful. In the beginning, it was a little more heated, a lot more emotions, voting was defensive. And then we checked ourselves and took emotion out of it,” said Sarnello. “To me, it was pretty clear where we were gonna end about the third day.”

They ended in mistrial on 23 counts.

Despite the division, according to Sarnello, the 12 came very close to convicting Blagojevich on the biggest alleged scheme: trying to sell the Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.

It was 11 to 1. The holdout was a woman.

“She just looked at things a different way,” said Sarnello.

He says at times jurors were getting hostile towards the holdout juror, but then they realized that she would shut down if she felt attacked.

“We’d listen to a tape and people would be like, ‘wow, that just confirms that he’s guilty’ and she’d say, ‘that just confirms to me that he’s not guilty,’” said Sarnello.

He wouldn’t identify the holdout juror because she’s been through enough.

The accusations are already beginning to fly… was she paid off, threatened, politically motivated, or truly convinced-even in the face of all of the evidence- that he was innocent? I’m sure a lot more on this will be revealed in the days to come, including the woman’s name.

What are the odds the woman is; a) a yellow-dawg democrat, b) a woman of color, and c) an obama drone.

I think Patrick Fitzgerald is scum and if I could not have found a way off the jury, I would probably have held out.

Oh, I'm sure that's all it was.

That's when the fur will fly -- I can't wait to see/hear all the left when they jump to her defense, attempt to justify her *different viewpoint* when it is patently obvious from the comments of these other jurors, not to mention the evidence provided.

My first reaction is that I would have kept her right there, day after day, week after week. My hope would be that she would ask to be taken off the jury and an alternate brought in at that point.

I know that's not a reasonable, real-world solution, but somehow she knew she could derail the entire process and in the end she was right, she could.

Hopefully she will be identified and her possible motives will be carefully examined.

As a rule I wouldn't think a juror in such a highly visible trial would be to visible to buy off or threaten or whatever. But hey, this IS Chicago and the case DOES involve Obama, so all bets are off. Who knows what happened!

I would be bet good money that whatever it was, it was not on the up and up!

I've served on two juries where this same thing happened, just a stubborn personality, that either cannot, or will not listen to the evidence or reason. On the first one, the holdout juror hated cops so he voted "not guilty" despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I heard today, on WLS, Chicago, that the 11 : 1 was on only ONE of the 23 charges the jury couldn’t reach a decision on. Doesn’t that mean that there were even more who said “not guilty” on 22 charges?

Wait, it is somehow this juror's fault if the prosecutor failed to make his case?

Sorry, but this is how our system is supposed to work.

Yeah ... like through the eyes of Washington, Lincoln, Franklin, etc. (greenbacks, that is).
