night of the living dead
I had more nightmares with The Andromeda Strain than any other. Just creeped me out.
Jaws. On family vacations I didn’t swim in the ocean for 2 years after seeing that.
Invaders From Mars ... late forties/early fifties version. They put ‘things’ in the mother’s and father’s necks and made zombies out of them.
Gozilla vs the Smog Monster.
When you’re four years old, even a guy in a cheezy rubber suit looks scary.
"The Thing"..original with James Arness

King Kong!
“The Exorcist”. I got a copy at school that was being passed around secretly and read it with a flash light (back then the Catholic schools weren’t fond of it or at least that is what I was told). Later, I watched it on t.v. while babysitting some neighbors children. I don’t think I had a good night’s sleep for weeks. I felt the bed keep moving and hearing scratching sounds. I will say that I prayed the rosary every night. To this day, I can’t look at pea soup without thinking of the scene in the movie.
The Superman episode with the little men from the center of the earth terrified me for days.
I remember for my daughter it was the exorcist. She started screaming in the night that her bed was shaking. LOL. My wife told me she was too young but I let her watch anyway. And I caught a lot of grief. (justifiably so)
That was the one I was just about to post. Scared the living crud out of me when I was about 6 or 7 years old. And that ending!
PSYCHO. I didn’t slide the shower door closed for years. Have a crystal clear shower curtain even to this day. If I think about it when I’m in a hotel shower with an opaque curtain, it freaks me out.
My two were “Quartermass and the Pit,” followed by “Dark Night of the Scarecrow.”
The Thing
Dial M For Murder
Bambi
The Tingler?
Attack of the Crab Monsters?
Both of those stuck with me, I’ll have to check to see how many Oscars they collected, probably lots and lots of them.
Believe it or not: The Wizzard of Oz. The images were disturbing to this sensitve twerp. I was a real whiney brat when I was a kid.
Now, I’m a whiney adult. :)
Alone, at night, a storm, the wind brushing tree branches across the siding, watching “The Birds”. try THAT one :>)
