Even as we speak, I have an agent bidding for me at a local auction house for some exciting items. Well, exciting to me, anyway. And to Agent Mom, as well.
The problem with summer auctions, especially in our little slice of heaven here in New England, is that we are a summer resort community. Now, dont get me wrong. I love the fact that people from far away come here just to spend time in our beautiful community. And they not only spend time, they spend money. Which is good for the community, allowing it to thrive. This is basic economics. So vacationers are great, in my book.
No, the problem here is that our summer people have lots of money to spend. And therefore, lots of money with which to outbid me (or Agent Mom) on items I want to purchase...

I’m not bummed out that there are folks with more money than I have—heck, there are TONS of folks with LOTS more money than me. Doesn’t make me want to moan about it, makes me want to work harder so that I can buy more Dedham Pottery!
I don’t begrudge anyone their good fortune, and I’m grateful to be in a position in which I can be optimistic about my own future.
I hear ya, and concur. I was just rebelling against the overall tone of the article, which I admit I did not read in it’s entirety.
