From the New York Times today:
Many States Adopt National Standards for Their Schools
How much money will be doled out?
"The quick adoption of common standards for what students should learn in English and math each year from kindergarten through high school is attributable in part to the Obama administrations Race to the Top competition. States that adopt the standards by Aug. 2 win points in the competition for a share of the $3.4 billion to be awarded in September."
Who's money was involved in the "effort" to get these standards adopted, but not in the actual award?
"The effort has been helped by financial backing from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to most of the organizations involved in drafting, evaluating and winning support for the standards."
In other words, liberals use their money to get it passed, but they will use taxpayer money afterwards.

I’m not sure this is fair. This was initiated by the states and was financed by the Gates Foundation. Conservatives are supporting it. One of them is Chester Finn who is very conservative. I’m not sure that they’re all that excited about the feds using these standards the way they are, but the standards themselves are supposed to be pretty good, although there are several states whose standards are higher.
Unless we put the control of the public schools back on the local level we will only sink further into the abyss of Communism.
Just more NEA brainwashing via Liberal propaganda.

I'm confused?!? What 'Race'?
In the olden day's, meeting 'the common standards' was called: 'Passing'And not 'Passing', or 'Failing' was usually followed by you meeting 'Mr Belt' when you got home. And the only 'race' was around the dining room table, to see how long you could outrun 'Mr Belt'.
And NOT 'meeting the common standards' was called: Failing
But it was no use. Mr Belt always won in the end
(pun intended)
Note:: I never 'Failed' a grade, nor had to go to 'Summer School'.
(now those guys really caught shiite from us. we were relentless and cruel)
My brother actually developed a sort of Stockholm Syndrome with ‘Mr Belt’.
One of my older cousins was such a screw off that he never made it past the 7th grade.
He was so used to Failing that he'd beat himself up :-)
He eventually joined the Navy and got a GED.
But after the Navy he was still a screw off. He's the Black Sheep, Loser, of the family.
