There is a new, additional charge of $14.95 on my telephone bill. It is from something called ILD Teleservices on behalf of something called Members Edge which apparently is a voicemail service. I have not knowingly requested any such service.
The bill, from Verizon, directs any inquiries about this charge to ILD Teleservices at 1-800-433-4518.
This post is a heads up for the rest of you potential chumps and a request for information on ILD Telservices and Members Edge and how to get rid of these blankety blanks.
TIA for any help.
We got third-party scammed. I called their 800 number over and over, day after day. That cost them serious money. They reversed the charges and we haven’t had problems from them since.
ILD Teleservices seems to have a long history of fraud. Contact Verizon, the Federal Trade Commission, your state Attorney General, and ILD. Tell them all that you would never order such a scam.

ATT did the same to me in the last year or so. I just told them I would not pay because I did not order.
Thanks. I'm hoping to resolve this without all the drama.
This happened to me several years ago as well. Call Verizon and complained. Verizon removed the charges and I haven’t had a problem since.
Thanks. The FTC thing looks interesting. I did a quick web search and got a confusing mishmash of results.
Thanks. I'll try but the last time I called Verizon I got nowhere with them. Got a few phone-answerers that tried to be helpful but who didn't know what they were talking about.
Thanks. Looks like it's not just the telcos involved in this and I don't think it's their fault. These crammers know what they're doing.
You have been slammed and you need to tell your local telephone ocmpany to remove them and the charges.
You are not liable for this. You can also report this to the FCC here:

I've been feeling slammed lately.
Thanks.
I have been in telecom since 1984 and with the advent of Equal Access where you can choose service providers and services this has been happening.
It has happened on so many of my account that we have a policy of locking the account, so no authorized changes can be made and have the customer approve it, for their protection.
ILD is one of many jerkoff companies that frequently scam theh public and I wish they would go the way of Cherry Telecommunications.
And it looks like they've been doing so for some years.
I've not looked into this in depth yet because I'm...a tad angry. But it looks like Members Edge is a voicemail service. However, the bill says there is a $14.95 charge for long distance and the Members Edge charge is the only one for $14.95.
Since I have the Verizon Freedom Unlimited plan, I don't know why I would pay for a separate long distance plan.
If I could get my hands on people like this...I'd now be in prison. Nevermind.
They never call their supposed products by what you would recognize them as and they have been around for years.
They are basically a conduit for other “services” and “service providers”.
They do not employ TPV (3rd party verification) and I can only assume they like living on the edge.
TPV is used by many companies including mine to ensure the customer has authorized any change in their service. TPV gives me and the client comfort knowing everything is on the level.
I hand them a checklist and tell them no changes will take place without their authorization and it is their responsibility to authorize changes through the TPV and only then will the changes take place.
Cost a little extra but there is no mystery between me and the customer and it reduces our exposure to lawsuit or government.
Tell Verizon to take the charges off and lock your account to further changes without your authorization.
You will need a password you can remember and it will be years before you make any changes so make it easy to remember otherwise you will absolutely go through hell the next time you make a change or add service.
I’m not kidding.
Oh and I tell my customers to think of it a Lifelock. These pricks are stealing from you and expect you to be asleep at the wheel and you just blindly pay it “Cuz it’s from the Phone Company. They must have had a rate increase or I made some 411 calls”.
Your bill should be the same, every month. Just like your cable bill.
...expect you to be asleep at the wheel and you just blindly pay it...
Yup. They know they'll get some certain percent of victims that way.
I also called AT&T and asked them how they he** they could allow those things to be put on my bill without consulting me or demanding proof I was the one who ordered them. No satisfactory answer was forthcoming.
Don’t let your phone company give you any nonsense. Tell them the charges are to be removed immediately and that you are reporting them to the FTC. Ask to speak to a supervisor if you get any resistance. Do report this to the FTC.
Thanks.
