School Officials in Mass. Town Won't Let Students Recite Pledge of Allegiance
Fox News ^

Posted on 06/30/2010 4:33:59 AM PDT by Amerisrael

Key excerpt from Fox:

"Some committee members voiced concerns about forcing people to do something that might violate their beliefs – including religious beliefs. Among the no-votes was committee member Leba Heigham.

'Patriotism is a very personal thing for all of us, but I do not think it is in the school committee's best interest to mandate that any of our employees recite the pledge,' she told the Patch."

[Hmmm....-could these 3 commitee members who voted against reciting the Pledge, be thinking about a young 17 year old ROTC student in Florida who once told a female Muslim student to,-

" take that thing off your head, and act like your a proud American" ? http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=108388

How about-get rid of that dhimmi appeasement stance and act like your a proud American!]

This was one of the issues that killed Mike Dukakis’ candidacy in ‘88.

When government-run schools oppose the idea of patriotism, you have to come to the realization that they are a destuctive force, actively seeking to destroy society from within.

If there are epicenters of hatred for America, Massachusetts is one of them. The Taliban has nothing on this school board when it comes to hating America.

BTW, Kerry's career depends on his supporting the Pledge. I seriously doubt his true feelings would.

I can’t recall reciting the pledge in HS — and I’m an old schooler!

committee members voiced concerns about forcing people to do something that might violate their beliefs

Do those same committee members agree however that people can be forced to purchase government mandated health insurance?

It’s Masschusetts - the birthplace of America and freedom. Why should we expect them to remain committed to freedom and patriotic to America??

Anyplace that has had reps in the Senate like the “K” brothers (Kerry and Kennedy), I would expect nothing less.

I really couldn’t care less whether or not kids are forced to unthinkingly recite homages to the government at the start of each day.

Let the teachers do whatever they want. There are thousands of issues that much more worthy of concern than a pledge to the government.

Stand up and recite it anyway. Freedom of speech and expression is still yours to use (for now).

The title of this article is misleading and the body confusing. Nobody is keeping school kids from reciting the pledge, they want an official ceremony each morning over the comm system.
