California: No. 1 in all the wrong categories

Just a few years ago California boasted the 5th largest economy in the world. On the heels of that voters in the former Golden State (now the "Tarnished State" according to author Todd Fitchette) fired their governor (Gray Davis) and hired an actor to be governor. It turns out, like in his on-screen parts, this actor has little substance. He's overseen California's demise, though much of that credit rests squarely upon the California Legislature, which over the years has continually spent more money than they've taken in, then to "solve" this inequity, have continued to raise taxes until the taxpayers are now fleeing California in droves. There are several interesting blog posts that address California's slide from first to worst. If you live in California, read them and forward them to your legislator. Tell him or her you are fed up with how they are running California into the ground and DEMAND a change. Citizens can't spend like this and get away with it for very long, why should the citizen's servants be able to do the same thing with the public trust and public money?

This is what happens when Democrats and token RINOs govern...exacerbated here by a stoned, liberal electorate blithely unaware of the Reconquista.

I’m reading this in Westchester County, just north of New York City. It really sounds familiar.

Someone should build a gallows outside the State Senate/Assembly.

I think the Governator just brought things to a head sooner. La-la land (I am a CA resident) was spending freely and Arnold started pressuring them to cut back. The Dems claimed he brought down our economy but, initially, he just held their feet to the fire. He had a symbolic ceremony where he cut up the state credit card to show we can’t keep spending. The wailing ensued. Then he started to push back on the power of the Teachers Union (I approve) and they pushed back harder. Then petulant Dems started obstructing more than usual to get the money (credit) flowing again. Then he wouldn’t approve the budget...just flat out would not...until they made more cuts. He did this a few times. I know the Governator is a rhino but I think he made alot of the right people angry. I think the ‘real’ problem is our legislature. They spend until they ‘feel good’ about themselves.

Well, if you remember, the voters had a lot to do with Arnie’s switch to being a RINO. When he first got elected, he tried hard to be fiscally responsible.

He tried with his initiative just after he got elected to rein in the public sector pensions, but the voters turned him down flat.

We have no one but ourselves to blame for that one.
