Obama has refused to waive the Jones Act. His Administration keeps putting the blame on the Coast Guard who puts the blame on others for not requesting the Jones Act be waived. Yet a simple Executive Order signed by Obama could waive the Jones Act in about 3 minutes, less time than it takes Obama to set up a tee on the golf course. The Gulf is in dire need of all the help it can get. When foreign entities with better expertise and equipment in oil spills offer to help, why is Obama refusing? While Obama dithers in his bad leadership of the Oil Spill, the Gulf Coast dies more and more each day.
It does apply, that is why Bush had to suspend it during Katrina. Bozo needs to suspend it immediately and start letting all these other countries help us.
The Jones Act is about shipping and trade. There is no shipping and trade involved in cleaning up an environmental mess. Barry0 is acting stupidly!
This was supposed to be used to stop that damned “Drill, baby, drill!” bunch.
Here is more.....
It does apply and must be waived to make it legal for foreign ships with foreign crews to work in our waters. But it is as simple as a signature to suspend it for any and all cleanup ops. This cannot be attributed to incompetence. It has to be deliberate obstruction.
I assume you’re now starting to get it?
I agree, Bozo is deliberately letting this leak escalate for his own agenda of ruining this country.
Does he even know about the Jones Act?
I am always hesitant to hang my hat on conjectures like that. But alternative explanations, that aren’t shakier than that, just aren’t coming to the surface. So far the few excuses offered for not waiving the Jones Act are the lamest excuses I’ve ever heard.
‘Lame’ is an understatement. lol
"never let a good crisis go to waste>" (Alinski and RAhm)
To this gang, this is a crisis made in heaven - it's a way to accelerate their plans to destroy our economy...
It's also criminal - and there should be charges. At the very least, heads should roll, right from the top, for gross negligence and endangerment.
I say that the Gov of La just ought to call and tell them to ‘come on’. Now the govt is giving BP to do something within 24 hours, or else, or else ‘they will be shot at sunset’? The prez is just playing the cover game. This time it is not going to work.
Think he should call sen, Reid for advice??
Since BP has maintained from the beginning that they would cover all costs they should turn around and sue Barry0 and the FedGov for creating obstructions that have jacked up the costs astronomically. Unfortunately the U.S. taxpayers underwrite the Clown in Chief’s arrogance.
Barrack's dithering is surpassed only by his poor judgement.
Because he wants to destroy the oil industry and punish the Gulf States.
IMHO, he is not dithering. He is not responding on purpose. Anything that will help destroy our country is ok by the won.
and insult to injury - he tried to sneak in the 6-month moratorium on all the rigs (!), under others signatures, and order BP to pay for the some 300,000 employees that would be put out of work!
AND, the oil keeps coming ashore because he refuses to waive the Jones act so that the personnel, expertise and equipment offered from other countries - from the very first - could get over and help! Most of that oil would never have reached shore. That is obama’s fault!
His obstruction is criminal. The only thing he's on top of is getting the lawyers down there and pointing fingers.
he is ‘some piece of work!
I remember that. One of the good things W did.
I don't know if I can even get mad anymore but I do need tons and tons of popcorn.
Is it just poor judgment? Can anyone bat a thousand in the poor judgment category? That defies Murphy’s Law, Occam’s Razor or any other measure of odds and logic I can think of.
