Conservative icon William F. Buckley Jr. would approve of the tea party movement, says conservative historian Lee Edwards, who just finished a book about Buckley.
Bill Buckley embodied the idea of blending the main streams of conservatism traditional conservatives, libertarian conservatives, social conservatives, neo-conservatives, national security conservatives and so forth, Edwards told Newsmax.TV.
He always said politics is a matter of addition not subtraction. I think he would reach out with open arms to the tea party movement.
(VIDEO AT LINK)
Edwards sees many similarities between the tea partyers and Buckley. They both are/were anti-establishment; they both support(ed) limited government, for example.
And just as not all tea partyers are Republicans, Bill Buckley was very careful about choosing Republicans as the main political vehicle, but maintaining good relationships with Democrats like Joe Lieberman, Edwards said.
His book is William F. Buckley Jr.: The Maker of a Movement. Edwards is a distinguished fellow at The Heritage Foundation.
And how would Buckley unite conservatives to victory in todays political climate?
First, He would make sure there are no extremists, as when he said there was no room for the John Birch Society in the conservative movement of the 1950s-60s, Edwards said. That groups founder Robert Welch said communists made up 50-70 percent of the U.S. government.
In addition, Buckley would counsel against engaging in ad hominem personal attacks, Edward said.
Stick to ideas. Bring people together around the basic ideas of conservatism limited government, individual responsibility, free enterprise.
President Obama, who is trying to turn us into a European democratic-socialist society, presents the conservative movement with the biggest challenge of its 50-60 year existence, Edwards says.(continued)

Now Mk, you know I'm not a McCain supporter.
That's good to hear, this means that you and Rabs (and I) are on the same page here.
So why the hyperbole?
No hyperbole at all. Just wanted to find out where you stand, thanks for stepping up as you did.
Step back from the keyboard and take a deep breathe.
lol, your concern for my well being is so touching.
My point is that these guys are actually worse as people to vote for than McCain, and that's going pretty far to the dark side.
Give your head a shake FRiend, neither Ron Paul OR Chuck Baldwin are on the Arizona primary ballot, and again: they have nothing to do with the topic of this thread. You are using them as a clumsy mallet to attack Rabs, and the logic behind such attacks is non-existent.
That you think it's okay to vote for and support someone who is worse than McCain tells me you need to rethink your philosophical base.
Straw man.
Sharky ol' pal, I don't support either Ron Paul or Chuck Baldwin, I support J.D. Hayworth. So does Rabs, so (apparently) do you.
So as Clara Peller might have said (paraphrased),
"WHAT's the BEEF?!?!?"

I asked you to post all your examples of "the Palinista attack machine".....*snickering*.......
And you know what I got?
*Crickets*
All you have to do is read over any Sarah-worshiping thread that gets posted on FR, and you'll get plenty of examples of posters who idolize the 2/3rds-of-term Governor of Alaska screaming murder most foul if anyone dares to speak a word of criticism about their heroine. Your asking for 'examples' is like asking for the daily weather report, anyone can see it, anyone can identify it, anyone knows what's going on. You may think you're sly, but so am I.
But nice try.

I told you that clearly and emphatically in my second post to you long ago. I support JD over McCain, have said so multiple times.
My argument goes to the judgement of your little clique. You seem to rant all over the map, but can't handle the fact pput right before you that fearless leader voted for and supported candidates that are worse than McCain.
Get it yet?
I've noticed he won't stand up for himself with his choices, are you going to take his place and argue for him? He needs to man up don't you think?

I know you want to join Sharky, but you can't join unless you learn how to spell 'judgment'.

I 'get' that whatever may have transpired in the past, has NO relevance whatsoever to the current McCain/Hayworth contest. You want to live in the past, that's fine. I'm going to live in the present and stand shoulder to shoulder with my fellow Hayworth supporters.
I've noticed he won't stand up for himself with his choices, are you going to take his place and argue for him? He needs to man up don't you think?
I think that you're needing some love, but you're looking in all the wrong places. (w/apologies to Johnny Lee)

Let's all be clear that the only poster hyperventilating here is YOU Sharky, you start thinking about Ron Paul and Chuck Baldwin and who may or may not have supported them in the past, and you get all engorged. YOU need to calm down and deal with the present day reality instead of focusing on what went down long before this McCain/Hayworth battle.

Pretty week, Mk, pretty week.
You'e been reduced to defending votes for candidates that are worse than McCain.
And kind of hyperventilating rather than addressing that problem. That's interesting.
I'm headed off for a bit. Bbl. Have a good morning over there.

I'm not "defending votes" for candidates worse than McCain at all. You have made a non-issue, an issue and when you call something 'weak', that is more and more looking like classic projection.
Rabs supports J.D. Hayworth.
I support J.D. Hayworth.
You support J.D. Hayworth.
So WTF is the issue here? By your non-logic, any Reagan Democrat that voted for the Gipper in '80 and '84 should have been condemned because they might have voted for LBJ in '68, or Carter in '76, now please try to wrap your head around this concept, if for no other reason than to avoid further embarassment to yourself.

I suspect so, on both counts. I would purely have loved to have had that guy around for this last election, if for no other reason than to see if Christopher would still have had the stones to endorse Obama.

“Like I knew, your attempt to tar and feather Sarah Palin because of two questionable endorsements is running on empty. “
McCain was neither “questionable” nor an endorsement. It has been a daily campaign for months by Palin .
McCain is more powerful and more dangerous than all the other RINOS put together.
If McCain is reelected and has a gang of like-minded RINOs under his thumb, there is no limit to damage he can inflict on America by reaching across the aisle to Obama and his gang of Marxists.
And we all know that he will do exactly that.
Sarah is making an awful mistake by backing RINOS!!
Go JD!!
Go DeVore!!

Yes, we all know it, and evidently there are many who approve. Why don’t they just get it over with and have the GOP platform state their actual goals instead of all this pretend conservatism??? WHY? Because they can’t get elected if they tell the truth!

That was what provoked my response.
Look, the rino wing has the money and the time...like McCain for instance. The WORST voting/attendance record in the Senate. At least Hayworth shows up for the job instead of full time propaganda campaigning. BUT....the rino’s have the money and the power.
Learn Spanish, praise Islam, learn to love poverty, ‘cause that’s what were going to get, even though the VAST majority of us don’t want it.

The only dolts who dont approve of Sara Palin are purists and those with another dog in the hunt. I'm neither of those, and I don't approve of Palin. She is not ready.
