In a statement U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff (D-CO) was offered the possibility of three jobs by Jim Messina, the Presidents deputy chief of staff.
The candidate says: In September 2009, shortly after the news media first reported my plans to run for the Senate, I received a call from Jim Messina, the Presidents deputy chief of staff. Mr. Messina informed me that the White House would support Sen. Bennet. I informed Mr. Messina that I had made my decision to run.
Here is the email Messina sent to to Romanoff, describing three positions.

Well, to play defense attorney for a moment (and to predict what will probably be the WH line in the coming days, unless they just decide to through this Massina under the bus), the government still hasn't proven quid pro quo. The defense will probably assert that it was Romanoff that inquired about his "alternatives", and Messina volunteered that these were positions that were vacant that Romanoff could apply.
Would a jury buy it? It depends what else the prosecution offered up, but this email doesn't help the defense, at all.
As a practical political matter, the real result of this email is it becomes VERY difficult for Holder to not appoint a special counsel, in much the same way has Kennedy was appointed in the Valerie Pflame fiasco. How he doesn't appoint someone now, even if Messina throws himself on the grenade, is a mystery.
LOL! Very astute observation. You know that a new war must be coming very soon now.
That was the point I was trying to make. What are the contents of the email?
Good on Romanoff for keeping the e-mail. No doubt anything in writing at the White House has long since been shredded or deleted.
I pinged you to that link...lol.
Ok, so now we have TWO job offers. Surely, there are more; just think of all of the millions of dollars the DemocRATs hoped to save this way in 2010 by eliminating competition in their own primaries. How many more will come out of the woodwork, or be uncovered by an Independent Prosecutor? Inquiring minds want to know ... |
The swamp filled up with oil. Snake oil. DC gold!
Y'all pay yer taxes now, yuh hear?
where it says “this is the email” is a hyperlink. I clicked it and it goes to a pdf. See my post a few above this for my take on it. I am not ready to call it the smoking gun. Reminded me of the TANG memo. A slipped distraction to throw off the dogs..umm, like the birth certificate.
“What to look for this summer: high profile Dems jumping off the Obama boat. When members of his own party start turning on him in a bad way, its the beginning of the end”.
Correct. That’s when Nixon knew it was curtains.
None of this is illegal, but it sure does look *very* bad politically. It’s basically an admission that the only way the Obama administration thinks it can keep Congress and the Senate under Obama-friendly Democratic control is to focus all resources on re-electing cooperative incumbents. They’re afraid that primary battles will draw down scarce resources, and end up with either Republicans or unfriendly Democrats winning. If a couple more of these stories come out (and I strongly suspect they will), a significant change of control is coming, even if it doesn’t involve actual Republican majorities.
Assuming the email included in the link is correct, the email was sent to Romanoff on September 11th, 2009.
Obama nominated the current Director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), Leocadia I. Zak, in November 2009-—2 months after the alleged email was sent. She had been the Acting Director since Jan. 21, 2009 before being officially nominated as Director in Nov. 2009. So, there was a period of time in which the White House could have approached Romanoff about the vacant Director of USTDA position.

This must be a racist attempt by white right wing christian tea party members wearing red shirts who disagree with health care reform!
If only obama put all of these resources into the Gulf oil spill!
Well...have you no comments?
Even if he said I'll just have a glass of water with lemon, the offer was made.
I concur, but it’s their out. They think they’re too clever by half.
If so, I believe that would also be a crime.
The Gulf, Sestak, Romanoff, the Blagojrvich trial starting up with Rahm and Valerie Jarret subpoenaed - and remember Blaggy wants to subpoena the WON too - why do you suppose he REALLY decided to ‘vacation’ for a 4-day holiday in CHICAGO - while the Gulf oil spill rages on - and he left Biden to do what is the presidents duty to place the wreath at ARlington. He had people to intimidate up there.
Turns out, Biden did an amazing job - starting with saying that he considered it the biggest honor of his entire life - while the WON got a message from God at the ABe Lincoln Memorial cemetery - crash, boom, bang - and sent him scurrying of the grounds without a speech - and very worried about the lightning. (Seems God was not about to suffer his condescending presence at that solemn function for our troops.)
There are a lot of ‘chickens’, it would seem, ‘coming home to roast.”
For a narcissist, this could cause a blowout.
If only obama put all of these resources into the Gulf oil spill!
