So I am sitting here in Baton Rouge thinking about he oil spill. Of course everyone here is worried. I love what God has created. The oceans, the mountains, nature. Numerous families in my subdivision derive their income from oil in the Gulf. I am far from an environmental kook. I grew up in Oregon and saw what happened to families and industry from the spotted owl fiasco but enough is enough! The gulf is dying and obama is playing golf? Maybe from now on we should say he is playing gulf. Here is my question to my brilliant brothers and sisters on FR. I have heard there are ships capable of drawing in the oil contaminated water, filtering the water, capturing the oil and returning the water to the gulf. WHY hasn't obama brought them in if that ability exists? Second question....why haven't they bombed the well? I am no nuclear scientist but couldn't we detonate a small nuke or conventional weapon to collapse the well? I have had it with the ineptitude. obama's admin gave BP waivers and BP didn't follow up on warning signs that there was a mechanical problem. BP wouldn't be drilling that far out if the enviro weenies hadn't driven them out there. The people of the Gulf region are screwed!
That is off by 1,000,000 times.
? ? ? ? ? ?
On CNN this morning, the former president of Shell said supertankers fitted with huge valves & pumps were used 20 years ago to clean up a big oil spill in the Arabian gulf. They sucked the oil off the surface, then separated the oil from the water and pumped the water back in.
He said the same technique could also be used for the oil plume under the surface just by attaching links of pipe to the pumps.
He thinks BP/Obama won't try it because it's "NIH" (Not Invented Here). That seemed far-fetched until I remembered reading weeks ago that 13 countries offered to help with the cleanup but were turned down...

BTW how the heck are you?
Burning it would of been the best option.
That horse left the barn forty days ago. It wouldn’t touch the majority of oil which is below the surface either. Nice straw-man though.
Now it is microbes, evaporation and wait until the balls hit the beach along with some pitiful boomimg and skimming efforts. When the stuff hits Miami the $hit will be in the fan.
What a great idea! Not only could sidelined fishermen do something to help save their livelihood (besides watch BP/Obama flail around), they could replace some of their lost income to boot.
I really think this whole thing would look a lot less like six monkeys boinking a football if the FedGov would just butt out.
see post #23, this is what I was hearing about.
thanks so much for the info...I think this is what I kept hearing mentioned on talk radio.
Gulf oil spill: Kevin Costner donates 'Ocean Therapy' invention to clean oil from sea; BP OK's tests"Costner has 300 of his Ocean Therapy machines in various sizes. The largest, at 2 1/2 tons, is able to clean water at a rate of 200 gallons a minute - faster than the well is leaking, Houghtaling noted."
The biggest concern I have is for the shrimpers and fishermen, and their livelihood, because of both the oil and the chemicals used to break it up on the surface, and cause it to fall down into the water.
I'm glad BP has the camera on the pipe, too. It shows they're not trying to hide anything, but it will also be a frustration for people wondering why Obama took so long to get engaged with the situation, and still doesn't seem to be too concerned about it. As for his administration's comments about being involved from "Day One", the only group involved directly was the Coast Guard, and that's because they don't need to be deployed by the President for emergencies like this. They were there very soon after the explosion, plucking survivors out of the water. Their response had NOTHING to do with Obama.
Hope they get it working out there, especially near the fishing and shrimping areas FIRST!
