Yesterday, I was interviewed by a reporter for CBS, for a story on the diverse groups of people supporting Sarah Palin online. The reporter authored a book on Palin last year, after being embedded with her vice presidential campaign, following a stint covering Mittens Romney. I cant imagine how many cucumbers-and-mayonnaise sandwiches this guy had to eat on the Romney Express (to nowhere), but I gave him the same kind of awed respect I grant anyone whos ever spent more than half an hour with Tim Pawlenty and didnt succumb to T-Paw induced narcolepsy.
We (the reporter and I, not Tim Pawlenty or Mittens) met up at Nookies Tree in Boystown and talked about Sarah Palin over coffee. Doing enough of these interviews over the course of the last few years, and being interviewed by some great people like Andrea Shea King and Tammy Bruce, I can usually spot the story the reporter wants to tell by the way his questions unfold and what he keeps coming back to whenever I take the conversation on one of my tangents about how terrible the current administration is. The story CBS wants to do on Palins supporters appears to be something in the realm of an unthinking, personal, and emotional defense of a woman they love. Its not a negative story, and the reporter doesnt seem like the kind who would write a hit piece, on either Palin herself or on me as a Palin-supporter, but the impression I got from him was that hes projecting the Lefts Obama cult of personality onto Palin supporters when nothing could be further from the truth.
Most of the questions asked of me were in the vein of how I felt whenever Palin was attacked, and what makes me defend her.

Did you happen to notice the source of the posted article? Perhaps you want to research that a bit before you limit the appeal of Sarah Palin.
Doc, you're way too deep thinking for me. I had to do a Google on St. Helena. That's too much work for a Saturday.
Remind me who was the first viable alternative to McCain to quit after he got his arse handed to him on Super Tuesday.
Mitt would have his best chance to get elected if the Democrats would nominate him. But ObaMao’s ego is too big to get out of the way.
And Mitt Romney is a Statist — Remember RomneyCare? Forerunner to ObamaCare? Yeah. Ya might not wanna draw that gun Mitt....
I would like to see the nomination won by a good Republican governor who has governed at least for two terms or even a a strong Republican Senator but my preference is for the experienced governor.Other than Haley Barbour (who would have more problems than Sarah Palin appealing to voters outside the base, IMO), who else fits your criteria?
Tim Plawenty, Rick Perry, Mitch Daniels, Jim DeMint.
I did not count on the article above to judge the Palin appeal among the general electorate.
My dream ticket would be DeMint/Daniels, but the reverse is also tolerable to me. Mitch is a man of substance and competence, and the best governor Indiana has had in decades. Minnie Pearl should host her own talk show, or replace Cathy Lee Gifford on that morning show with the Egyptian chick.
He really should get out of the way. He is not a viable candidate. IMHO
Mitt’s problem, as well as that of the rest of the ‘08 field interested in running in 2012, is that he was and is at best...meh. Running down Sarah Palin, even if you accept the attacks as true, even if they work, will not make him less...meh. Being less...meh...will make him less...meh. And if he’s counting on “it’s my turn”, well, “it’s my turn” is always, always subject to the unspoken disclaimer “unless somebody better comes along”. I’d argue that somebody did. At least, she’s got the right to jump in and prove herself. It’s not automatically Mitt’s turn anymore, and he’d better deal with it.
Speaking of which, you can say what you like about her qualifications, you can say what you like about whether or not it was right or whether or not it was wise for her to leave the governorship midterm, but one thing you can’t credibly call Sarah Palin at this point is a quitter. She’s plowed through the crap and stayed engaged and, if anything, more active and vocal than she was in office. A wiser opposition might have left her alone where she was.
Come on, 2012.
name recognition is a very very valuable commodity in national politics. Do not take it lightly. Look at Hunter, Thompson, etc they might have had good ideas but because of low name recognition those ideas and those candidates failed.
With Mitt and Palin taking the oxygen out of the room. The chances of any other candidate breaking through without millions in ads will be extremely difficult at this stage of the game
the number of people that have even heard of those two are in the low single digits %. for those two to even have a chance they would need millions just so people know their names let alone their policies, views and character.
Whether she runs in the primaries or not, she has done quite well financially since leaving office and is the only Republican politician out there who has made any real impact on the 2010 campaign. She has put the Rinosaurs who run the Republican Party and believe making nice with Marxists is the way to survive (frankly, I think most of them are afraid of winning ... it means having to, gulp!, take responsibility) on notice that their days are numbered.
If a better candidate comes along I will cheerfully vote for him or her. But in the meantime, who do you feel that person may be? Certainly not a political chameleon like Romney.
1. Rick Perry
2. Jim Demint
3. Tim Plawenty
4. Mitch Daniels
5. Haley Barbour
6. Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney
You can see it coming from a mile away..
The good news is that Sarah can see it coming too. They have used every attack in the book against her. At this point she knows what is coming. And that is to her benefit.
You don’t understand. Sarah Palin still has more excutive experiance than our current President. and she is now a TRUE outsider.
and she has it..
Whatever it is..
She didn’t quit. She was forced out financially.
She knows they are going to use it against her. She can load up and knock that argument out of the ballpark.
