In retaliation for Citizen's cutting up the City Council's "2C" no-limit General Budget Credit Card, the Fearless Leaders of Colorado Springs have stopped watering/maintaining city parks... and removed trashcans.

We stopped the can thing years ago...Take your litter with you!! Where's the problem??
Why not just create a Town Dump near the park....and kill two birds with one stone.

I guess it hasn’t occurred to them to look at their budget and figure out where they really spend most of the taxpayer’s money?

So the story is that the City Council members used to have magic credit cards, courtesy of the city, and now that they've been revoked the City Council is punishing the citizens by not giving dog-walkers free poop disposal?
Sounds like a good deal for the citizens, to me.

I do not see any problem with expecting people to pick up their own messes and clean up after themselves.

That’s no big deal and is a way to save money ... people should take care of things themselves. Why have the government “picking up after you” ... :-)

Get even with them. It’s no problem to carry your poop bag out with you. Get volunteers to keep the weeds down to a manageable level and do without the councils input. When is elections? Vote the all out.

You're right, there is no problem with that. However lots of people don't see it your way and will leave their poops.......
If there wasn't a poop problem in the first place it's quite likely that the cans would never have been put there......

Ah.. exactomundo Star Traveler... you beat me to it...
"Pack it in, Pack it out" some folks were taught to do that... long before the Colorado Springs City Council put it on a sign.
Which begs the question, WHY were some folks NOT taught to do that; and taught instead that they should rely upon government employees to pick up after them and do what good Americans should have been doing in the first place? Hmmmm...

If they cannot maintain them, force the government to sell them.

Love it. Now fire a bunch of city workers and their bosses. Government is not about solutions...They are about making government bigger, and developing ways and new strategies to take more money from you.

Love it. Now fire a bunch of city workers and their bosses. Interesting thought.
Now that they are not watering the parks and empty the trash cans those who used to do the watering no longer are needed to do those jobs.
Did they fire them or are they still on the payroll. Enquiring minds want to know.
If not, why not?!

They tried that in our area also.
I have no problem packing the bags with my dogs’ poop out of the park, but they stink up the car when I take them home.
The cost for a trashcan that is emptied every few days is not that much.
The politicians need to cut somewhere else. Their salaries for instance.
I suggest we pack all those bags of poop right down to city hall and let them know how we are going to vote...

They always try to cut the most visible things and hide the pork.

The dead wood is definately being exposed as the pond level drops. Problem is they haven't cut personel- just reasigned them to projects for building new infrasture.... while leaving pot-holes unfilled (bad Voters, Baaaaad..... clunk clunk).
;-}
The same Fearless Leaders are funding a 2..3+ Billion Dollar expansion of government infrastructure via a water project (SDS).. to enable the City's developer cabal to McSprawl its way East toward the Kansas border. Without this water, the Development Cabal can't get permits to build. Their access to the required resources is not being paid for out of their own profits - but via increased water rates ala the City-owned Utility "Enterprise".
The Rate increases are being rubber stamped by the Utility Board.... which is also, coinkidinkly, the City Council.
Quack Waddle - TAX. And a violation of the Spirit, if not the Letter, of TABOR - which requires voter approval of new taxes.
Additionaly, the development Cabal wants to change the City Charter to form a "Strong Mayor" / council structure.
The chief reason - "We need a charismatic STRONG LEADER who can SELL TAX INITIATIVES BETTER"! LOL. More taxes, for more infrastructure, for more development.... in addition to the infrastructure that we can't afford to maintain ALREADY.
If their antics weren't so expensive... they might be funny. (Well, they're funny anyhow... but they're still expensive.)
Oh and BTW, the Chief Puppet, the Mayor... is a R.I.N.O.:
"Mr. Rivera is employed by UBS PaineWebber as a Financial Advisor and hold the title of Vice President-Investments. He has been employed as a financial advisor for over 15 years."
Lionel Rivera Announces His Candidacy for Mayor of Colorado Springs
"We are all screwed unless the 16 million dollar issue is resolved!" Assistant City Manager Mike Anderson wrote to LandCo Chairman Ray Marshall in a Nov. 25, 2008, e-mail, whose subject line was, "URGENT - NEED TO MEET."
"USOC deal was in trouble early"
Brodie, James W LandCO Properties/President $2,100 LIONEL RIVERA FOR CONGRESS - REPUBLICAN P 03/21/2006
Cisco, Christopher L LandCO Properties/Business Developm $2,100 LIONEL RIVERA FOR CONGRESS - REPUBLICAN P 03/21/2006
Dylewski, Gary R LandCO Properties/Developer $2,100 LIONEL RIVERA FOR CONGRESS - REPUBLICAN P 03/21/2006
Marshall, R. L LandCO Properties/Chairman $2,100 LIONEL RIVERA FOR CONGRESS - REPUBLICAN P 03/22/2006
Raider, Michael G LandCO Properties/COO $2,100 LIONEL RIVERA FOR CONGRESS - REPUBLICAN P 03/22/2006
And yes... we WILL vote them out...
But my guess is some of the Cabal members, having milked the A$$Paper gravy train dry, are upside down financially... and are thus grasping at whatever they can to keep the kleptocracy afloat - so this isn't over by any means... just the beginning.

If you can carry it in then carry it out was always the philosophy we had hiking and camping in the Colorado mountains back in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
Maybe it is time to expect people to be responsible for their own messes again?
