Ten Things for 2010 (Denninger/Market Ticker Strong Warning)
The Market Ticker ^ | May 14, 2010 | Karl Denninger

Posted on 05/14/2010 8:42:21 PM PDT by Travis McGee

(This is from the middle, but go to the link and read it all.)

Get those "sudden stop" plans in place - NOW. If you're in a big city you're in big trouble. Find friends or relatives that aren't and see what you can do about a place to go where you have a reasonable shot at avoiding the worst of this. Look, all-out civil unrest (or worse) is a low-probability event but if you get trapped in a big city and the worst comes that city will go feral within hours and become a free-fire zone. What's worse, many of these cities are openly hostile to citizens having and using effective self-defense; the bad guys don't give a damn about laws - that's why they're called criminals. There really are bogey men in the world - they're called gangs folks, and they would love the opportunity that a breakdown that would come with such an event. In such a circumstance the only way to win the game is not to play. This is all about where you are, not what you have.

If you haven't acquired the means of lawful self-defense in whatever form or fashion you deem prudent at this point, the time to do so was yesterday. You need time and practice as you need competence - the biggest component of self-defense is the thing found between your ears, not the thing in your hand(s)! I know I've harped on this before but if you think you can go buy a gun when things get dicey and be "protected", having invested nothing in practice and/or training you are very likely to have that weapon taken from you and then be shot with your own gun. That's a crappy way to die; if you're unwilling or unable for whatever reason (including legal restrictions where you live) to acquire the means of defense then being concerned about the above (where you're going to go, how you're going to get there, and what you've got for supplies) becomes even more important.

Probably the MOST IMPORTANT bit of advice from Karl...

If you haven't acquired the means of lawful self-defense in whatever form or fashion you deem prudent at this point, the time to do so was yesterday.

You need the tools necessary to defend the most important thing in this world...YOUR LIFE...and the supply of food necessary to nourish...YOUR LIFE.

Thanks for posting, Travis.

Be prepared.

(p.s. Karl any and all self defense is "lawful")

I agree. I guess Karl was suggesting another reason to move out of places where armed self defense is virtually illegal. “Gun free” zones like Chicago, etc.

Mr. Denninger impresses me greatly. About a year ago, I followed a link to his site, and beheld much I needed to learn. I still have much to learn, but he has helped me tremendously. Sir, if you should read these words, you will always have a place in Ohio, should it ever be needed. And most of all, thank you.

oh for god’s sake. enough with the drama. where’ this guy’s money invested? lemme guess...gold.

If his relatively low probability prediction comes true, will it really matter?

Please add me to your ping list. I don’t think I’ve seen Denninger give such a dire warning before.

If only his predictions didn’t have a pesky habit of coming true, it wouldn’t matter.

Thanks...you're probably right. All the other "stuff" is meaningless/useless if the SHTF. When everything falls apart...your life and the means to sustain and perpetuate it...are the most valuable commodities on the planet. At that point it's...life...liberty...and a long way down the road to "the pursuit of happiness".

Thanks for your body of work and posts Travis. It is very much appreciated.

That’s how I feel, but I doubt we’re gonna get “boring”.

These homies couldn't care less about anyone's bird shot in a 12 gauge, or that 38 popgun, or your hopped up 22 Ruger; they want what you've got, and they'll get it: Your women, your daughters, your girlfriend, your food, your weapons, your clothing, your money and gold and silver, your life. They're mean as sh*t and don't give damn. They can't be reasoned with, bargained with, or scared away. They live on fear, they feed on fear, and they want you fearful. They love to play games with your lives, they have nothing better to do.

If you want to live you’ll fight like you mean it, like our military means it. The military doesn’t carry birdshot, or 38 specials or 22 Rugers. They may be getting PC’d, but they still fight to kill, to win, to walk away on their terms…just like these gangs do and will.

I admit to confusion regarding hyperinflation versus deflation ... inflation I understand — printing scads of paper called Dollars devalues it ... but the dynamics of deflation are not as clear to me.

Nonetheless, despite being in midtown Atlanta, the Spodefly Bunker Complex and World Headquarters is sufficiently armored and armed and stocked to endure most “downturns” ... and with a days notice to escape I have an even more heavily fortified escape in the mountains of NC.

Personally, my preference is that we get our crap together, stabilize the economy, vote a bunch of corrupt incumbent assholes out of office in November, and all live happily ever after.

“I believe we are in for a time of great tribulations.”

I have a friend that married a Peruvian woman who converted him to Catholicism. He’s never been big on the doomsday outlook nor on religion really, but, he’s certain, for no reason he can specify, that we are in the end of times with God. He gave me chills saying that as he’s never been one to go there...and he’s a Wall Street executive of a rather famous organization. Blew me away.

“but the dynamics of deflation are not as clear to me.”

One aspect is that if people can produce but there is little money for people to use to buy things, that can cause deflation as supply exceeds demand. We have that right now.

I thought you lost them in a boating accident?

Or were you the guy who was cleaning your guns, on the railroad tracks, when all of a sudden!.... A train came through and ...WHOOSH!

As it went by you could see your former weapons being ground up into metal shavings.

That was you..., or so I thought. /s

“my preference is that we get our crap together”

Something that struck me as the final say in all this is that a guest on Fox Business said it best: We cannot repay these loans by printing money or borrowing more and we are past our ability to produce our way out of debt. Meaning, the interest payments alone dwarf our productivity. Imagine making $1 a day but your interest payment is $2 a day, adding $1 a day every day to your debt. We are bankrupt, we just haven’t declared it yet.
