Salon.com Liveblog from Manning/Columbia/Obama trial

(Alex Pareene is in Harlem for the "trial" of President Obama at James David Manning's ATLAH World Ministries Church. He'll be updating this post all day with pictures, description and video from the festivities.)

Apparently, the massive rally that was to begin at 9 A.M. at 116th Street and Broadway (near Columbia University, which trial organizers claim "sold" Obama his undergraduate degree) never materialized. Alex then made his way a few blocks north to the Rev. James David Manning's ATLAH World Ministries Church. Manning had claimed that up to 30,000 people would show up. Looks like that estimate was a little off! But there were some people gathering outside:

Alex emails:

Decent turnout. 75 ppl maybe. Lady walks by and asks what's going on. I explain. "oh, these crazy people have been here forever," she says.

Alex also spoke with a man named Bill, who said he'd come up from Miami for the trial. "This is serious business," he said. As of 11 A.M., organizers were inside the church and preparing to open the doors. Stay tuned.

Decent turnout. 75 ppl maybe.

Impressive. That's six times the turnout I was expecting. I believe this is the biggest birther rally yet.

Whether this was legit or just a money making scheme, Manning made a tactical error here IMO. He would have been better off to film it like a legal thriller/documentary and sell it on DVD...marketing later rather than selling it as a “live” event.

Any sourced material he might have could have been in extras or linked on a website.

I don’t remember ANY birther rally. What ones are you comparing this to.

Photos of past rallies here.

This one looks like the big one. Will Obama respond?

Sounds about like what one would expect. It’s truly sad that anyone takes this nonsense seriously.

Another “birther” story?

Yawn.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a birther.

But a while back I came to the conclusion that this story isn’t going anywhere.

Not for lack of merit, but for lack of cojones.

Common sense makes absolutely no difference where this issue comes into play.

We’re all racists, dontcha know?

There’s no way that any of these news outlets can backtrack on that one.

What we’re asking them to do is make fools of themselves.

Not likely.

But don’t lose faith.

It’s possible, it’s just possible that this one issue which no one wants to touch with a ten-foot pole …

May be the one issue that keeps Obama in check.

So keep your powder dry.

And keep the tips of your arrows dipped in poison.

You are serving a purpose.

And Manning said there'd be media from all over the world converging on Harlem to cover this "trial."

Ping over here, they took away our other thread (I don’t blame them)..

To answer your question, he represents no court. This has all the legal implications of a bunch of people sitting at a bar.

I love the picture of a Condoleezza Rice mask sitting in a stairway. I imagine someone left it behind after they saw no one else was wearing one and they didn’t want to look ridiculous.

I guess he didn’t go back yesterday. That’s disappointing. Why would you go for jury selection and not the actual “trial”?
