I have been following the GOP Senate primary race for some time. I had studied the candidates and after awhile I came to the conclusion that I wanted to support Chuck DeVore in that race. I followed his campaign, saw him give a speech last month, and even gave him some of my paycheck.
My opinion changed today after Sarah Palin gave her endorsement to DeVores challenger, Carly Fiorina. It wasnt Governor Palins endorsement that got me to change my mind about him, it was his reaction to the endorsement that served as a big red flag warning to this mans leadership capabilities. Plain and simple, Chuck DeVore is no statesmen. The statement he allowed to be released by his campaign was immature and derogatory. It said:
This grassroots movement is actually a grassroots movement, said DeVore spokesperson Joshua Trevino. Carly Fiorina thinks she can find the sheepdog to corral the sheep. Chuck DeVore knows theyre not sheep at all. Theyre Americans. And theyll make their own decisions.

“Palin should have endorsed DeVore, and even if he lost to Babs, conservatives would be better positioned for the future because he would have had a platform to articulate a message that Californians dont hear.”
That makes no sense at all, Your advocating six more years of Barbra Boxer is OK as long as DeVore gets to hawk his message.
Really? Are you concerned that she's not really pro-life? That she's not really pro-Second Amendment? That she's not really pro-military? I'm not firmly decided on a vote for Sarah Palin in 2012, but I'm not going to write her off over what may be a logical tactical decision. She's the best I've seen so far, and even with an endorsement or two that I'm not thrilled wit,h she's still leading the pack.
Sadly I will probably come to the same conclusion. I am keeping my powder dry though, it's a long time until I have to cast my vote.
I have long suspected that as she was put into a position to reveal more and more of her politics and decision making that I might well begin to see a different Sarah from what I enjoyed during the election.
It is more complicated than than just an issue. She has no political past and and has a “spotty” voting record as a private citizen. She now claims in some nebulous way to be pro-life and not to favor sodomite marriage, but she has no record on these issues. One is tempted to think that for Fiorina it is merely the appropriate rhetoric for the Republican primary season; you tack right before you go left in the general, and then achieve full RINOHOOD in D.C.
She has been incompetent in every major job she has held from Lucent to HP, and she just somehow only recently found her voice to say some vague things about the most hideous moral and spiritual crime in history, abortion. Of course, what “prolife” means coming from her no one really knows. I’d rather trust Mitt Romney, whom I don’t trust much at all.
What about cap and trade, Sotomayor, and bailing out Wall Street? I think she supported all of these, and I don’t recall her opposing the 2009 CA tax increases, although I could be wrong about that.
RINOs will control the R party in CA forever if you treat politics as a short term matter of who wins in the current election cycle. That will assure the victory of the hard left.
BTW, I am a former CA resident who was involved in politics there.
No I’m not advocating 6 years of Boxer. Yes,I do want DeVore to have a better platform from which to “hawk his message”; it is called building a movement. Short term, unprincipled thinking has been the bane of the Rs. Moreover, the way things are going, DeVore might very well beat Boxer in the fall....but electing another RINO - an enemy within - would be worse in the long run than Boxer. Yes, I am saying it is better to take what appears NOW to be a somewhat larger risk of losing in the fall to build a movement.
Whats wrong with the quote?
What about the people who do like Palin and go with “anything she says must be right?”
I feel the same but don’t know any.
Yes you are.
After a while, reading your posts, people have to acknowledge that your position is that Barbara Boxer needs to win reelection to the California Senate seat.
That "whoever" is Tom Campbell and Palin could never endorse him and her endorsement in the general would be a negative in California anyway, don't you guys pay any attention to politics?
Tom Campbell is truly radically left, Campbell is enthusiastically pro homosexual, he is strongly against prop8 and is a true proponent of "gay" marriage, Campbell is not "soft" on abortion, he truly and openly is pro-abortion. There was not Campbell endorsement coming.
My guess is that you are a closet Tom Campbell supporter, judging by your posts on homosexual, Giuliani, and Romney threads.
Tom Campbell people.
Ok, you truly are a numskull if you are directing that comment to me.
I’ve met Campbell. I know all about him.
However, Carly has a terrible reputation in the Silicon Valley.
She is no Meg Whitman. People liked working for Whitman. She is highly respected, even by people that don’t agree with her politics. Most people agree she was a good CEO.
That is not the case with Carly.
To me the choice is really between Devore or Campbell. Carly is the low one on the totem pole. I don’t trust her.
Campbell, I don’t agree with on the social issues, but he’s honest.
Devore I agree with, but I think voting for him give Carly the edge. I’d rather have Campbell over Carly.
Just thinking out loud here.
One thing that I cannot stand about our current crop of politicians is that they do not have a firm stance on the issues. They will flip flop depending on the current polling data. They will make back room deals, and you really don’t know how they will vote because they don’t have strong convictions.
I feel like Fiorina is more of the same. She is in it for herself, and she will bend with the polling data.
I would rather have someone who is a little more liberal, but you know where they stand. I can stand Joe Lieberman more than Olympia Snowe. Sure Joes more liberal, but you can make plans for that. Snowe blows with the wind.
Campbell is more liberal, but he’s been pretty firm on his stance for the issues for years. You know where his is coming from.
Devore is definitely the most conservative, and he is firm on the issues.
Fiorino - I think she blows with the political winds, and that totally bugs me.
So f*** all of you Palin haters and Romneybots. I will vote for Palin if she runs, I will vote for Fiorina, I had already made up my mind to vote for her before the endorsement. Don't like it? Tough sh**.
I have run into this on other threads.
I just don’t know how to handle the Tom Campbell support here at FR, I sure did not expect it, and I’m not prepared yet to confront it, I’m still too shocked by the idea.
I included your name because I was answering a post that someone posted to you, that is why your name was second.
This is the first time that you have seen that here?
Ok then I apologize.
I get why people would chose Campbell over Carly especially those from the tech industry. Having a 30 year history with HP....ok wont start that rant. I know Tom and personally he is a nice guy, but is just wrong on the issues. Today, I just want Boxer gone.
But being the most conservative candidate is NOT enough and the sooner people realize that, the better. And how can anyone say that having little support doesn’t mean anything? If people aren’t following you and supporting you...they ain’t voting for you and you aren’t going to win an election that way. If you aren’t winning elections...someone else is and making policy. How can that not matter?
