The makers of 2012 said the reason there were no scenes of the Kaaba in their flick was because of their fear of jihadi reprisals.

As usual, its about money. Think of what Hollyweird would have been like if the Nazis or Imperial Japanese had heavily invested there.
Hollyweird producers get some of their capitalization from wealthy Arabs who would not take kindly to the evil nature of their religion being exposed and exploited in entertainment.
It is also about overseas sales; some Euroweenie government might ban their movies because of their “provactive” and “hateful” content.
