Son Jim came up for a visit this weekend and we spent Saturday at The Breaks Interstate Park on the Virginia-Kentucky border. The Breaks Visitor Center features a single-crib log cabin and a moonshine still -- which comes with directions for use, in case you don't already know how. [Photographs]

Remember the “Whiskey Rebellion” , when a major distiller(can’t remember his name, but his face is on paper money) lead a charge to kill 264 farmers who we’re his competition.

It didn't last long.

When I saw the title "The Breaks" I knew it was a river. Just wasn't sure which one. That one goes on my list of places too go once I get some more dependable transportation I can count on.
My dad spent a good portion of his youth camping on rivers and told me about the breaks on the Holston. They would ride a river skiff down it. LOL I heard him and an old friend of his talking about doing it a couple weeks ago.
For those not knowing what a river skiff is they are long narrow flat bottom boats used on rivers with long poles to push them upstream.

I am neither a camper nor a backwoods hiker, but a few years ago I spent a few days at Breaks Interstate doing just that. A few of the trails there are very grueling, as close to mountain climbing as I am likely to get. It is a beautiful park.

That moonshine still: a thing of beauty!
