If my reading of her blog is correct, for the last couple of days she has been racing a storm front to SE Cape, Tasmania

Have you ever watched the movie Operation Petticoat? I sorta like pink ships now.

I have done my share of sailing and I am in awe of her. Sailing an angry sea is a very sobering experience.

Oh I went to her website you posted and she is just terrific! I watched the latest video of her journey AROUND THE WORLD in her sailboat and I just loved watching her talk with the news folks in Australia...they did a quick outlay of her journey around the world on a map and she is down south of Australia now, on her way to Sydney, so she will have to round the country and go north to reach home... and MY GOSH...what a charmer! And what courage!

Is she doing this in support of Breast Cancer? Maybe that is why the boat is pink. At any rate, this is one strong, courageous young woman and to think my parents wouldn’t let me go out on a school night. :)
Seriously, she has so much courage, determination and savvy...she should run for President.

It's hard to get a sense of scale of waves from a still pic, but that looks pretty damn tall. Videos give a much better sense of wave size and dynamics. Of course, 10' "sqaure waves" with vertical faces are worse than 30 foot swells. Video lets you "see" them.
Me, just on a nice day on the ocean.

If she gets around SE Cape, she's only got the easy run to home.
The "easy run" being sailing, by herself, in winter, a reverse Sydney to Hobart, one of the most difficult crewed offshore yacht races in the world.

People tend to think, “I could do that”, but they fail to realize the hopelessness of no one around and they can’t just get off the ride when they want to.

Is she doing this in support of Breast Cancer? Maybe that is why the boat is pink. Why does everything have to be in support of anything?
It's Pink because: Imagine you are a 16 year old girl looking for sponsorship. Done that, now what do you do?
Paint your boat pink, name it Pink Lady. Take it to the Sydney International Boat Show. There, you accost the Managing Director of cosmetics firm Ella Bache (Guess what their corporate colours are?), who sponsor sailors and sailing teams.
Make him an offer he can't refuse. Girl has more front than Myers.

I have done my share of sailing and I am in awe of her. Sailing an angry sea is a very sobering experience. I'm sure my sailing experience is nothing like the seas that you and Jessica Watson have seen, but those Wednesday afternoon sail boat races on days when there were small craft advisories was sobering enough for me. At least I could see the shore line and imagine a swim for it if that became necessary.
