Bunch of cowards, trading our freedom for "security" because $oro$, brokko, and dead fish are taking advantage of a crisis, perhaps of their own making. </tinfoil hat>

There are probably thousands of offshore rigs in deep water. Easily hundreds at that depth. How many blow outs in 8 years of Clinton and 8 years of Bush? And I know the stuff they have on the sea flor at the base of the well to prevent blowouts.
This was designed to destroy domestic energy production. The success record speaks for itself. But crap happens. Either from a freak occurrence from Mother Nature or negligence. Terrorism or sabotage (from off rig) is at the bottom of my list of causes.

If there is now justification, from a single event, to stop any new offshore drilling, then logic seems to carry that ALL U.S. controlled offshore wells should immediately be shut down.
So I guess gas should jump to $20 a gallon... that could prove to be very interesting.
Unless you want to use leafs, buy all the TP you can get your hands on.... once the gas is gone, so is nearly everything else.
