"I've never supported amnesty"
From 92,5 FM Fort Myers
Rubio: "Here's my fear, my fear is that the Obama Administration is going to use this to go forward on some sort of amnesty bill, I never supported amnesty, I think amnesty will be terrible for America's future, quite frankly I think amnesty would be terrible for legal immigration, if you were to grant amnesty, you will never be able to have a legal immigration system that works in America. So my hope is that will serve as a wake up call to Washington D.C. that the immigration system is broken in America

I forget. Is this a flip, or a flop?
Rubio needs to read the law, and otherwise shut up, for his own political good.
I don’t have a problem with what he said. What is your beef?
Here is the beef. If you are not lock step with my belief system you are a RINO, a DIRC, a CINO, whatever. That’s the problem. He is coming from a thinking viewpoint that misses the law itself but does have a valid point.
Like an Amnesty has a chance in hell of getting ANY support right now.
I think his response to this considering he is Hispanic, is pretty level headed. He does not fault Arizona. He understands why they passed the law. He puts the blame squarely on the Fed Gov. and he is against amnesty. I can live with that.
I think his point of not wanting 50 different immigration policies is sound. What he is really saying is the Feds did not act so Arizona felt they had to.
Rubio is on record as opposing Amnesty.
Rubio: “... I think aspects of the law, especially that dealing with ‘reasonable suspicion,’ are going to put our law enforcement officers in an incredibly difficult position. It could also unreasonably single out people who are here legally, including many American citizens. Throughout American history and throughout this administration, we have seen that when government is given an inch it takes a mile.”
Better to say nothing until reading the law and discovering that it simply upholds existing law. When someone is stopped for committing a crime, they will be asked for ID. This isn’t a new policy of stopping people for no reason other than to ask them for their papers. The Arizona law doesn’t single out anyone.
I agree. I think his reasoning is solid, but yesterday not so much.
BTW I should have put a /s next to the part about RINO, etc. Quite a few yesterday flipped out on him and basically took away his conservative street cred because he is worried about a certain aspect of the law so I was mocking them a little.
“Throughout American history and throughout this administration, we have seen that when government is given an inch it takes a mile.”
He has a valid point. Did you listen to the interview posted with this thread?
Maybe he should have read the law first, but I still don’t have a problem with what he is saying. He is anti-amnesty, anti-Obama, ant-Crist and that is good news to me.
I caught the sarc. I did not hear what all he said yesterday but I am concerned when every state, county and city have different immigration laws.
I am always concerned about abuse of power, because people as enlightened as us might not be the ones in charge. ;)
If Rubio flips on Amnesty, then I will start to worry.
We don’t have to have 50 different laws, the other states can all adopt the Arizona law. See, problem solved.
“We dont have to have 50 different laws, the other states can all adopt the Arizona law. See, problem solved.”
Yes they could, but that ain’t gonna happen. Texas maybe.
We have a Federal agency that is specifically tasked with this problem. They need to do their job.
I am sure I wasn't the only one to post to his website, but I will take credit for the flop.
I read the interview, and like you, I’m for Rubio ridding us of RINO Crist, and that’s all the more reason why I think he can’t afford knee-jerk reactions over something like Arizona’s immigration law. I dare say Rubio’s strongest support is from people who like the fact that Arizona is looking out for the best interest of it’s citizens. ...What Rubio is saying today is a little more considered, making me think he took some flak and decided to change his tone a bit. He is in a precarious position now, and can’t afford to make mistakes that dampen the enthusiasm of his base.
Fear not my fr friend! I am still un-dampened! It will take a much bigger jerk of the knee than this!
They won’t do their job. I don’t even know if they know how. They won’t employ the border guards because they can hire a paper pusher instead and that paper pusher can be bribed to look the other way. Sure there are border guards that do too, but the majority of them do not.
Rush gave Rubio a master class today. Hope Rubio listens.
Rubio, if he had a shred of decency, would be more concerned about the dead, kidnapped, raped and robbed Americans in the border states than he is concerned about his amigos having to present i.d.’s showing they are in the States legally.
Some life and well being (foreign) is more important than other life and well being (Americans). I am tired of these fricking traitors.
