The overwhelming majority of the current 1st district is infinitely different than the Traverse City area, and it is disconcerting that Allen would presume to represent most firsters. The TC area is the home of Michael Moores yearly film festival, and is a play spot of many celebrities and government officials.
There is a valid concern that Senator Allen, a politician who has not been living the life of a person from the vast tundra of the first district, nor has he represented 74% of the district, could win his partys nomination, and would be attacked relentlessly by the Democratic nominee on this issue.
Once the Democratic nominee gets a hold of Allens background and his associations with the rich lifestyle of the Traverse City set, they will divide the first district on the rich versus the poor, class warfare, and Allen will be deemed a rich Republican.

This is good for Dr Benishek. This splits the vote in the south in the primary and the UP vote will go for Benishek.
Benishek wins the primary.
you mean split in the south between stillings and allen?
I’m in the 7th but I’m rooting for Benishek.
I am in the 1st and rooting for Dr. benishek. say no to another Rat and any RINO.
Yup..That can ensure Dr.Dans win in the primary.
In politics, there is an age old trick. Get someone to run in the district where you know you wont do good to split the vote. I dont think that anyone put up Allen to this but having this fall into place puts Stillings at a disadvantage big time. I dont like Stillings. Why?
At the Escanaba tea party Stillings came up to me and intro’d himself and I asked him if he would favor a constitutional convention to amend the US Constitution to force the federal government back into its place by allowing the states to veto any bill passed and signed by POTUS that takes power away from the states. He told me that in no way would he favor that and his excuse was that we dont need to do such things. It turned a little heated then as I told him he is just another status quo politician who favors doing things the way it has been going in DC all along. About 40 people watched this exchange and many came up to me and gave me support for standing up to him...one was Tommy Casperson.
