Andrew Sullivan: The Filter That Protects Palin From Scrutiny (The Ne Plus Ultra of PDS)
The Atlantic ^ | April 21, 2010 | Andrew Sullivan

Posted on 04/23/2010 12:39:03 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Here's a revealing glimpse into how a delusional, incompetent, pathological liar has managed never to hold a real press conference and yet remains a credible public figure. She avoids the filters - i.e. skeptical journalists - and deploys one simple propaganda tool:

(Requests to interview Palin for this article, specifically about her experiences in the 2008 campaign, were turned down. Her former communications aide Meghan Stapleton explained that "with her Fox exclusivity, we are denying requests for articles and stories right now.")

The reason I banged on and on about Palin's bizarre story about her fifth campaign prop during the campaign was not because I wanted to invade someone's privacy, or engage in loony conspiracy theories. The reason is simply that this story raised legitimate questions of fact, and that the press decided that it would never ask the relevant questions, and indeed ostracize and ridicule those who did.

Palin managed to sail through the campaign without any real scrutiny on a crucial matter of credibility, when proving her case would have been as easy as a simple fax of a readily available extract from what must have been voluminous medical records. But not even the McCain campaign asked for such evidence. And the press utterly bailed. Now, she is able to use one powerful propaganda outlet, press-restricted buck-raking speeches, and a book of magical realism to continue this creepy, unaccountable celebrified campaign.

The problem here is not really Palin. Every delusional, ignorant nutcase should have a chance to get away with running for national office.(continued)

I see your point, For myself I always viewed Illegal immigration as a separate issue from National security/ defense. after reading your comment and while reading Dale Brown's “Edge of Battle” you are correct the two are inexorably tied together.

Hey I have a great idea, Sullivan—why don’t you accuse your opponent of that which your side perpetrates. That way you can be real smart.

Oh, I see. You’re already doing it. Isn’t it just brilliant. You must be a genius.

Marcuse, Alinsky and Marx. How proud you must be.

Their angst is easy to understand.

Sarah is starving the lamestream media, and is still able to reach all the real Americans without their "help".

The economy too — it would require a vibrant economy to sustain a city contaminated by a strategically placed dirty nuke. The panic, loss of land and property, the need for more security measures inside our borders — a vibrant economy could bounce back the way we did after 9-11. But as weak as we are right now, I don’t see us absorbing the shock with any kind of grace.

Another thing to consider is that while other nations can safely build nuclear power plants, we have the added risk of terrorists wanting to destroy the “Great Satan” combined with an illegal labor pool.

yeap its a new attack line the left is using basically saying she was too stupid to see the consequences of her own reform bills. Quinn Hillary from the American spectator tried it out first i believe the typical RINO and Mitt supporter that he is. Now Andrew has picked it up. I will bet dollars to donuts that the MSM will pick up this attack in short order. It's what they do, they make stuff up.

they use half truths or outright lies to make a point then simply report the talking point and never reference back to the lie they used to start it.

I am sick and tired of the Stalinists using Pravda in this way. I demand truth in reporting

That drops the creds of those particular Palin bashes to rock bottom. And as it stands, your credibility is way up in my book. Thank you.

He's just angry because he can not continue figuratively riping Palin limb from limb.

What a hater. A real tiger for love and peace that one.

Take a break with the claws and teeth for a sec Andrew...you can continue the attempts to consume her earthly vessel at a later date./s

“. If she’s clear that her plan for “path to citizenship” is nothing like amnesty”

No sale, Arthur. A “path to citizenship” IS amnesty.

” Palin never actually provides numbers in her book, but she does write that she “had made the largest veto totals in the state’s history.” Well, context is important. An observer parachuting into a state without knowing all the local factors can think something is utterly inexplicable which in truth is easily defensible. Still, the results of Palin’s efforts seem strongly to belie her claims of fiscal conservatism. The first two general-fund budgets for which she was responsible showed spending hikes of 16.4 percent (from fiscal year 2007 to ‘08) and a mind-boggling 21.8 percent the next year. Total government expenditures (a slightly different measure) grew 38.6 percent in those two years combined. This record is to fiscal discipline as the Grateful Dead was to sobriety.

Similarly, as has been well documented, Palin’s original claims about the “bridge to nowhere” were flat-out false. She campaigned in favor of the funds for the bridge; then even after killing the bridge project once it became infamous, she kept the federal money and used part of it for a “road to nowhere” that leads to where the bridge was meant to begin. “

Hillyer is not “trashing” anyone. I went back and reviewed Palin’s record in Alaska, and was similarly unimpressed.

I know what you mean — that was the way they pushed for “guest worker”. If she runs, she needs a tougher path than that.
