Andrew Sullivan: The Filter That Protects Palin From Scrutiny (The Ne Plus Ultra of PDS)
The Atlantic ^ | April 21, 2010 | Andrew Sullivan

Posted on 04/23/2010 12:39:03 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Here's a revealing glimpse into how a delusional, incompetent, pathological liar has managed never to hold a real press conference and yet remains a credible public figure. She avoids the filters - i.e. skeptical journalists - and deploys one simple propaganda tool:

(Requests to interview Palin for this article, specifically about her experiences in the 2008 campaign, were turned down. Her former communications aide Meghan Stapleton explained that "with her Fox exclusivity, we are denying requests for articles and stories right now.")

The reason I banged on and on about Palin's bizarre story about her fifth campaign prop during the campaign was not because I wanted to invade someone's privacy, or engage in loony conspiracy theories. The reason is simply that this story raised legitimate questions of fact, and that the press decided that it would never ask the relevant questions, and indeed ostracize and ridicule those who did.

Palin managed to sail through the campaign without any real scrutiny on a crucial matter of credibility, when proving her case would have been as easy as a simple fax of a readily available extract from what must have been voluminous medical records. But not even the McCain campaign asked for such evidence. And the press utterly bailed. Now, she is able to use one powerful propaganda outlet, press-restricted buck-raking speeches, and a book of magical realism to continue this creepy, unaccountable celebrified campaign.

The problem here is not really Palin. Every delusional, ignorant nutcase should have a chance to get away with running for national office.(continued)

If he were writing about Mr. Obama, this article might make some sense.

The homosexual Andrew despises a happy heterosexual mother like Sarah Palin.

Typical rant of a liberal scumbag who is scared to death of Sarah. You can read the same thing word for word at DU or kos almost every day.

No one here will accuse me of being a Palin partisan (usually I'm called a hater), so allow me:

Here's a revealing glimpse into how a delusional, incompetent, pathological liar has managed never to hold a real press conference...

Every delusional, ignorant nutcase...

propaganda...propaganda outlet...

from Wikipedia:

Intermittent explosive disorder (abbreviated IED) is a behavioral disorder characterized by extreme expressions of anger, often to the point of uncontrollable rage, that are disproportionate to the situation at hand. It is currently categorized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as an impulse control disorder.

Andrew Sullivan is suffering from AIDS. I can tell you, as someone with a good friend who has had AIDS for many years (and who has survived it in part thanks to doing what the "experts" said NOT to do years ago--give the body periodic rests from the chemicals that strip the body of strength), ,amy who suffer from AIDS have great amounts of anger and hatred. While this is understandable, some of these people end up directing their hatred in bizarre directions.

I am not mocking Sullivan. I find a lot of the anti-gay comments posted here and elsewhere hateful and, frankly, un-Christian coming from Christian people.

But sometimes you have to look at the evidence, and conclude there is something unhinged about this person.

The reason I banged on and on about Palin's bizarre story about her fifth campaign prop during the campaign was not because I wanted to invade someone's privacy, or engage in loony conspiracy theories.

Why have none of his friends taken him aside and pointed out that this is EXACTLY what someone who's become fixated on something to the point that it's permanently wounded his career would say in defense of something so personal, so hateful, and so frickin nutty as his intense hatred for Palin, and his "Palin baby-birther" one-man conspiracy theory?

In Andrew Sullivan we are seeing something very bizarre and kinda sad--a person losing his mind on the page.

If you construct a sealed media cocoon, and false narrative, and a massive money-machine, you can get further than most people imagine.

That this is appearing in a national liberal magazine and no one there realizes this describes our current president perfectly is sad, but also pretty funny.

The Lamestream Gay Media is crumbling financially because America is rejecting their message. Let the commie bastages disappear.

Sarah is getting her message out to the people who matter.

Is he still on over her pregnancy? Good Lord, what a fool. He’s obsessed. What he thinks he can possibly know about pregnancy I can’t imagine, but releasing her medical records would not please an obsessed individual; she could show videos of the birth and he’d say they were CGI.

Oh WAIT! This is still THESE United States of America and I have the right to just not read them, right? I might as well use that right while I still have it.

If everyone would perhaps consider reading the article AND where the link leads to (try clicking on the words 'revealing glimpse' in the article at the Atlantic), they would discover that what Sullivan is going on about is Quin Hillyer's article "The Problem with Palin" over at the *American Spectator*, which actually raises legitimate questions regarding Sarah Palin's experience and readiness to serve as President of the United States.

Forget Sullivan and his rhetoric, go read Hillyer's article which Sullivan has linked to:

Palin has essntially been given a rectal exam, and so far as I’m concerned, she’s been the most thoroughly vetted political leader in history. My only concern is borders. If she’s clear that her plan for “path to citizenship” is nothing like amnesty, then I say: “Run baby run!”

The election of Obama as president makes such articles about the “legitimate questions about Palin’s readiness” look hollow. I don’t think she can win, but she is nevertheless far more qualified than the current president.

‘Palin “had made the largest veto totals in the state’s history.” Well, context is important. An observer parachuting into a state without knowing all the local factors can think something is utterly inexplicable which in truth is easily defensible.’

I love her more!

Spending was up. What was the deficit?

‘she kept the federal money and used part of it for a “road to nowhere” that leads to where the bridge was meant to begin.’

Oh my, a poorly planned road?

(To nitpick ...) I’m “shocked” by such honesty.

Short career speil, small town crack — no ‘nitpick’ alert there.

” ... the town’s long-term debt reportedly jumped from $1 million to $25 million. ...”

Now there’s a way to make a point. Buried under pettiness.

Smear as “quitter”, partly because she didn’t suck up to college professors enough.

CPAC getting catty with her? I’ve already begun to wonder about CPAC.

” ...her thin-skinned touchiness begins ...”

Good grief! Thin skinned? She’s been through HELL!!!! HOW DARE that writer accuse her of being thin skinned!

“(Palin never overcame such a counter-attack.)” Quite a reach to be certain of that.

” ... that which is done with good intentions in the name of ethics can hobble good government rather than promote it. That appears to have happened in Alaska with Palin ...”
... [snip] ... “Yet it doesn’t seem to occur to her that this imbalance was the eminently predictable result of her own reforms.”

Yeah, so Palin was blindsided by just how thuggish leftwing lawyers can be when a Chicago thug airdrops them. She should have realized what few Americans realized when Obama tricked people into voting for him? That’s a huge over-reach. Petty twist.

I’m willing to forgive a poor road mistake, and I’m certainly willing to forgive a little naivitee about leftist lawyer-thugs. Live and learn. Now she knows better than most.

She sold the governor’s jet on ebay. That tells me a LOT about her character on fiscal responsibility. The only legitimate gripe is the raised deficit of her town.

OK, I stopped reading after that.
