When the darkness and fog cleared on August 29, 1776, the mud soaked trenches were empty. General George Washington had slipped away during the night, living to fight another day. The Battle of Long Island was a clear British victory, but it was a lesson learned in the pursuit of liberty that the American conservative knows, and a lesson that Americans of every race, color and creed should know.
So, on August 27, 1776, General Washington arrived in New York, overseeing the construction of new fortifications in Brooklyn Heights. The men found it hard to warm their food or keep their powder dry, and on August 28, 1776, additional troops arrived to strengthen the size of Washingtons forces to 9,000 men. Unfortunately, Washingtons mistake was splitting his troops between Manhattan and Long Island. Fortunately for Americans, unfavorable winds and rain kept Admiral Richard Howe from cutting Washington off. And Washington quietly slipped away in the early morning hours of August 29th.
Dividing his forces was a mistake that General Washington wouldnt make again. And we hear that refrain from weak-kneed Republicans all the time, A house divided will not stand. Thats very true, but the house must be united under a conservative banner. Liberty depends on it, and so does every American if we are to reverse the present course the American people are having rammed down their throats. The mistakes of the McCain Presidential campaign cannot be repeated if the American culture as we know it is to survive.
But today, we have strong conservatives that have long echoed those sentiments. There is Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham and others. These good men and women perform a valuable patriotic service to keep Americans informed of the never ending need in pursuing liberty. And then there are the individuals that work the polls, go door to door and spend hours of valuable time in pursuing liberty. Most of these individuals are not known, but they perform just as invaluable of a service as the titans of conservative talk radio.
Mark R. Levin calls these people, Paul and Paulette Reveres. These patriotic individuals dont have a Golden EIB microphone, nor do they have millions of listeners that tune in, awaiting every word from these stalwart intellectuals; rather, they have a love of America that is as fervent, and is as passionate as the largest of talk radio heads. Two of these patriotic souls are Cory Emberson and Rick Lindstrom.
Cory and Rick have done something far more powerful than a Mark R. Levin show. They have written a book. The book, Pursuing Liberty: America Through The Eyes Of The Newly Free, is a book about newly freed citizenscitizens that lived under tyrannical regimes and escaped to become productive American citizens.
The book is told in a first person narrative by the individuals that served under these tyrannical regimes. Or as Cindy Nguyen from Vietnam says, When I see Americans talking about redistributing wealth those people, they are living on clouds. They just dont get it. Theyve lost their common sense. Everybodys going to end up equally miserable. Cindy has become a productive American citizen, and we cant salute her enough for surviving tyranny, and then speaking out against those that would take America down the same path as Vietnam: The Democrat Party.
I know that I learned things about Vietnamshocking thingsthat I had not previously know. As the son of a Vietnam veteran, I was acutely aware of the atrocities the Communist Party spread on the people whose paths it crossed. But I was unaware of just how miserable communism made the unfortunate peoples of Vietnam. The Vietnamese people werent given a choice at liberty. The Democrat Party made sure of that.
And now we have a first hand account of just how destructive the Democrat Party is, and has become. I once wrote an essay, Democrats Are The Party of Destruction, and Cindy Nguyen has personally validated every thing I wrote. So thank you, Cindy, Elective Decisions applauds you for speaking out against tyranny, and for bringing that to the American people.
In the past, far too many people became unaware of the tyrannical practices of the Democrat Party, but now they have awakened, and they have awakened with an unequaled fervor. They are prepared to aide in the spreading of liberty. And with this book, Pursuing Liberty: America Through The Eyes Of The Newly Free, they can point to the chapter on Vietnam, giving individual Americans first hand accounts of tyranny.
So Elective Decisions has a special thank you to Cory Emberson and Rick Lindstrom for seeing this project to fruition and bringing this book to the American people. They are a Paul and Paulette Revere of the highest order. Nope, they dont have a Golden EIB microphone, but they have one hell of a book: Pursing Liberty: America Through The Eyes Of The Newly Freea powerful book thats sure to shake the foundations of liberalism.
I have no doubt that General George Washington would read this book and smile in approval, because our Founding Fathers were indeed escaping tyranny and Pursuing Liberty, and thats why this book is the clear choice for conservatives.
Rick and Cory have a website: Pursuing Liberty, and you can go there and order the book. Ordering at the site allows Rick and Cory to make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, and that kind of project always needs the support of Americans. Soon, the book will be offered on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com, but these two outstanding individuals are just getting started.
