Results are in from the Southern Republican Leadership Conference 2012 Presidential Straw Poll. Here are the top four:

439 Mitt Romney

438 Ron Paul

330 Sarah Palin

321 Newt Gingrich

Fox News' Carl Cameron just reported that Romney supporters were "handing out gifts" to attendees, and that Ron Paul sold cut-rate tickets to the event on his website. So, considering that, I would say Palin and Gingrich made pretty good showings.

Has ROMNEY been a man to take Ownership for the attacks on Gov. Palin on the eve of Election 2008 throwing Obama into the White House?

I just went to YouTube to see if Palin's "shoot" quote was up there. Didn't stay long there. I suspect that Romney and Obama and just plain nut cases are throwing everything they can up there to make Palin look bad. Any one who looks seriously at her record (including her resignation) can easily see why they are doing that. She has a record of accomplishment that extends beyond party lines in Alaska and in the energy sector she's unsurpassed in her knowledge and understanding. As she gets more comfortable in the policy area I look for her to shine there too.

I don't think that I would be mocking Jim Robinson by calling him a "palinbot", newby

Um, I was not knocking people who like Palin or even admire her, that would be me. I was referring to people who want to burn down other people's houses because they don't think Palin is the second coming, but of course you knew that already. Grow up.

How does one buy votes and why would the Southern Leadership Conference speakers want to attend such a corrupt event?

I think your analysis makes sense.

Not mine; copied it from excopconservative. But I agree.

“This is just sickening... America is DEAD.”

Just to bring you up to date, America died just after WWII. It has just been a very slow, painful death.

I am not suggesting that the Tea Party become a 3rd party. What I am suggesting is that the repubs should have realized by now that the same ol’ RINO mentality may not work anymore.

In 2012 everybody is entitled to vote for whom ever they wish. I’m voting for Sarah Palin. My hope is that enough of the country do the same. We’ll see, this is all assuming she runs.

MITT ROMNEY EXPOSED BUYING VOTES
NEW ORLEANS -- I spoke to a young female delegate who said she planned to vote for
Romney in the poll. I asked her how she had ended up at the conference.
She said "Evangelicals for Mitt" had contacted her and offered to pay for her to have a
limited-access ticket -- so long as she agreed to vote for Romney in the straw poll.
Asked how "Evangelicals for Mitt" got her name, she said she didn't know. But she said
that she was on the email list for Romney, and speculated that the Romney team
had given out their email list. “

Any of these events are subject to scamming with the price of a ticket if they have a straw poll. As someone said earlier, it would be better if they dropped it. The other side is that hypes the attendance and helps the sponsor pay the bills!

I wouldn’t be using the bot designation for Jim Robinson and the overwhelming support for Palin here at freerepublic.

People openly say a lot of harsh things about Romney because freerepublic is officially against Romney and has named one of it’s formal goals, as stopping Mitt Romney from winning the Republican nomination, the owner of the site also occasionally mocks Ron Paul.

Good post, Gingrich also will not burn down the house if he can’t win (if he runs), Romney will.

Romney is running to either defeat conservatism as the head of the party, or to destroy the party itself to keep a conservative from welding it’s power.

I see the dumb GOP is still pushing the extremist Ron Paul and Rino Mitt Romney. God Save us. As usual no Chuck DeVore, Jim DeMint, Steve King or Michele Bachmann on the list. And Palin did great, clearly we must stop the Rinos and Libertarian Truthers from taking over. They are as bad as any Leftist. We don’t want Huckabee, We don’t want Romney, We don’t want Ron Paul, We don’t want McCain.

Ron Paul is a RINO. He is a Neo Leftist Libertarian
and uses the title Republican out of expediency.

Conservative Republicans do not claim this Libertarian loon

“Gingrich also will not burn down the house if he can’t win (if he runs), Romney will.”

Romney is spiteful; you are right about that. But he is so marginalized by Romney Care that I don’t think he has enough influence to do it. Not this time. The stakes are both too high, and Palin is too good a candidate for him to be able to repeat his shenanigans of 2008. In January 2013, he will be coming, hat in hand, to President Palin trying to swing Secretary of Commerce or HUD (his daddy’s old Job). I hope she shows him the door.

Posting old propaganda is typical of those who want an Obama 2nd term

This is some of Sarah Palin’s current statements

Palin expands her position on Illegal Immigration

Palin: we need to close the borders. They are called illegal aliens for a reason and if they are not going to follow the rules they should not be in our country.

It’s pretty simple I ratched that one down to the simple answer because its an easier answer than some politicians want it to make it be. you close the borders. You get more agressive about cracking down on the illegal aliens and we take it serious what our border patrol officers are trying to do

December 2009

Lars Larson radio talk show

LARS: The amnesty proposal that was defeated in Congress — in your view, was that amnesty for illegals and would you back amnesty for a path to citizenship, as the current president calls it?

SARAH PALIN: No, I’m not for amnesty. Let’s ratchet this down quite simply to remember what we’re referring to. Illegal aliens are called “illegal” for a reason. We need to secure our borders and I am not for amnesty.

And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if they’re not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.

They buy votes by paying for the tickets. The tickets aren't cheap, I should know, I bought two for my wife and I, and then something came up that we couldn't go.

Because the speakers aren't there primarily for the straw poll, they are there to communicate their policy ideas, to speak, to get noticed, some reasons are honorable, some are self-serving, etc., etc..

Hope so, but from what I see of the way that Romney is using the power that he has accumulated since he registered Republican in 1993, is that he is struggling to get back at conservatives for what he thinks that they have done to his family, and especially his father.

Romney is planting anti conservative cancer cells around the nation, cancers like Meg Whitman.

We all need to relax. Everyone knows this is a small conference and most attendees are paid to attend by a candidate.

Mitt is just handing out “walkin round” money and handing out copies of his book, that he bought by the truck load, to create a little hype.

Conservatives aren’t stupid. Newt won’t do any better than he has in the past and Mitt will tank in Iowa.
