Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:39pm EDT CHICAGO (Reuters) - A Chicago taxi driver was arrested on Friday and accused of sending money to a Pakistani militant with al Qaeda ties and of planning to bomb a U.S. sports stadium, authorities said.

Raja Khan, a U.S. citizen since 1988, told an undercover government agent he had met Ilyas Kashmiri, a Pakistani Islamic militant accused in a separate case of plotting to attack a Danish newspaper, according to court documents.

Khan and an associate, identified as "Individual B," allegedly had a discussion during which they appeared to talk about attacking a stadium in the United States in "August." Khan further said that he would ask "Lala" [Kashmiri] to teach him how to conduct such an attack

According to the criminal complaint, Khan also discussed a possible bomb attack on an unspecified U.S. stadium this summer. Speaking with a man identified only as Individual B, Khan allegedly said bags containing remote-controlled bombs could be placed in the stadium and then, "boom, boom, boom, boom," prosecutors said.

The man was held in Chicago as he prepared to board a flight for England carrying cash to buy explosives.

The money, ultimately bound for ­ Pakistan, was intercepted after an ­elaborate sting by FBI agents who had penetrated the terror cell. Last week taxi driver Raja Lahrasib Khan, 56, a naturalised US citizen of Pakistani ­origin, was charged with financing ­terror.
