Health Care Wasn't Obama's Waterloo - But was it his Alamo ?

In June of 2009 Senator Jim DeMint remarked, “If we’re able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.”

In March of 2010, after a furious battle with badly outnumbered Republicans, the House of Representatives passed a Government overhaul of the United States Health Care industry, ending the speculation that Health Care reform would amount to a a political "Waterloo" for the President and his party. Perhaps, however, the military comparisons don't end here.

In March of 1836, after a furious battle with the badly outnumbered Texian army, the Mexican army overtook "The Alamo" and attempted to use the victory to buoy the Mexican Revolutionary goal of conquering Texas.

It didn't quite work that way.

Word of the Mexican victory at The Alamo quickly spread through Texas, and the Texian army gathered forces to repel the Mexican advance. None the less, the Mexican army still outnumbered the forces of General Sam Houston by almost 2 to 1. The advancing Mexican army believed Houston to be cornered at the San Jacinto river, and decided to rest his army for a planned attack on April 22.

Texas army General Sam Houston had a different idea.

At 4:30 pm, on April 21, 1836 General Sam Houston launched a stunning broad daylight surprise attack, charging the "resting" Mexican army while shouting "Remember the Alamo !" Taken completely by surprise, the Mexican army was destroyed. In a battle that lasted 18 minutes, 700 Mexican soldiers were killed and 730 were captured - including "El Presidente" Santa Anna - who surrendered to end the Mexican revolution.

History teaches several lessons here. ...

Thanks for the encouragement. When I see the left implement their media plan to discredit conservatives and act like they have momentum, I get discouraged.

When I read about Obama’s private army in this bill, I get scared to death.

How about we stop trying to make comparisons to past events and just do what needs to be done?!

Yes.. there are similarities to almost any revolutionary events in the past. Why? Because this government is acting in ways that spurs people to either split from it or overthrow it.

Lets stop talking about it and DO IT! Either Secession or Armed conflict... Something has to be done.

The only people who fought in the Alamo were Patriots that loved this country so much, they fought an overwhelming majority, giving their life for our country. Obama does not qualify to be even mention with that sacred place.

“to end the Mexican revolution.”

Que es esto?

I think the author means “to end the Texan revolution” or the Texas-Mexico war or “the Texas war for Independence”.

The Mexican revolution is the name usually given to the civil war within Mexico in 1910.

Health CAre was indeed Obama's Waterloo. He is a dead man walking. If it wasn't his Waterloo, he would not be wanking all over the country, strdemtoy trying to sell it through a campaign. People would be wanting the change. They do not.

Dead man walking. It was his Waterloo.

And we need to get him a cottage in Sardinia?

Comparing Obama to Santa Anna is fair and I hope history reflects a similar outcome.

Had we managed to defeat the bill we would have forever been slammed as the failure of the liberal approach. This way, they have no one to blame but themselves. Of course that won’t slow down their manic drive to pin it on us, but thinking people know their plans fair because they simply don’t work. Never have, never will. And they damn sure can’t blame it on not spending enough money this time!

Obama thinks that if he makes enough speeches mocking the Republicans, and the media keeps attacking anyone who opposes the health care bill, the public will swing around in support. It’s an article of faith among liberals that ordinary citizens are stupid.

"Health Care Wasn't Obama's Waterloo - But was it his Alamo ?"

It could just as well be "Custer's obama's Last Stand".

We hear daily now about how the right is "inciting violence" and how we are "racists"...empty words with not on shred of proof behind them.

Now the threats are coming back, like rumors of obama's "goon squad" and Van Jones huffing and puffing. Well, it's mostly just intimidation tactics as we continue to hear rhetoric and no action...unless they have the victim outnumbered, as with the SEIU members ganging up on one (1) TEA party member last year.

These people think "group". That is all they know. You won't hear much from them unless:

(1) They're talking on TV to get attention, or;
(2) They have you vastly outnumbered.

It's what they do, it's how they do it.

We just have to borrow one of their "alinskyisms" to win any battles that ensue..."The end justifies the means".

Like the wicked witch of the east had her army of flying monkeys, obama has the same...except they don't fly. But they ARE too stupid to think for themselves, and have bought into the lie that "the man" is what is making their lives miserable.

These people are taught from infancy that what ever befalls them in life - whatever hard knocks they encounter - it was caused by the white man. Many don't know any better and do not possess the inteligence to figure out the truth...that's why we have to feed them for life.

We can all pull a "red dawn" and retreat to the mountains and live on roots and deer meat, or we can take a stand before it has a chance to turn into complete takeover and the reinstitution of slavery...in reverse.

There is no use for 20% of the population to run the other 80% when sheer numbers alone should mean we overcome. We've just got to get over the "fear", and march forward.

Folks, it ain't gonna get any better for a while, so either resolve to live in misery, or hit the streets...you choice.

I think you misunderstood the comparison.

Obama is the Mexican Army. Our loss of the HCR battle was the Alamo. Patriots will rally to defeat SantaBama & his minions and win the politcal war in the end.

I used to have a Gary Larsen cartoon (The Far Side) about the Alamo. It showed defenders fighting and falling.
Inside was a souviner salesman with t-shirts, cups and such that said ...”I Kicked Santa Anna’s butt at the Alamo!”

The price list showed t-shirt prices marked out and lowered, and lowered, and lowered.

It’s only his Alamo if he is Santa Anna.

“Lets stop talking about it and DO IT! Either Secession or Armed conflict... Something has to be done.”

I support the right of a state to leave the Union. What I do not support is a lot of treasonous talk.

I must tell you that at one point in my life I took an oath to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic. There are plenty of us who love this country, not just via lip service when politics are going our way, who will have no problem honoring that oath if the time comes.

Obama will only be in office 4 years, if America is so intolerable in the meanwhile I suggest leaving. Even dems who hate America only talk about moving to Canada, not trying to splinter the Union. Much less through violence. That’s just not acceptable, even if you don’t like how things have been going.

I think Obama and the Democrats were compared to the Mexican Army in the analogy ... not the defenders of the Alamo. At the Alamo — the Mexican Army had a huge victory that created the rallying cry that lead to their ultimate defeat.
