Bill OReilly had on his regular media analyst Bernie Goldberg last night to run down the medias reaction (on both left and right) to the passing of the Health Care bill on Sunday, and echoed some of the same thoughts voiced by David Frum, the former speechwriter for George W. Bush, who made quite a stir yesterday in calling health care reform the GOPs Waterloo, but a big win for the conservative entertainment business. Is this the beginning a more measured tone on right-of-center opinion media? Not likely.
First some background: amidst the gnashing of teeth and roaring of terrible roars on the right-of-center opinion media yesterday, came an interesting take from Frum, who basically placed the Health Care bill defeat for the GOP on a much grander scale. Calling it the GOPs Waterloo in a blog post that was summed up thusly:
So todays defeat for free-market economics and Republican values is a huge win for the conservative entertainment industry. Their listeners and viewers will now be even more enraged, even more frustrated, even more disappointed in everybody except the responsibility-free talkers on television and radio. For them, its mission accomplished. For the cause they purport to represent, its Waterloo all right: ours.
Last night, OReilly echoed that sentiment, though in much more measured way, when he said:
I was listening and I was hearing almost hysteria. Not to say that it wasnt entertaining it was. I mean, they were crazed, they being the callers and the right wing hosts. It was entertaining, and I think they believe what they said. I didnt see any guys being charlatans.

You could say exactly the same thing about Bill O’Reilly.
Actually, I meant to. Thanks!
I have not taken the guy seriously for years. I also am rarely exposed to him though.
O’Reilly had a chance to stick it to Obama before the election and he cowered in the corner and sucked his thumb.
O’Rielly’s moral compass consists of a single moist finger.
I heard what he said last night and was disgusted. I usually like Bill but, he’s not always right.
Yep, you said it better than I could have.
Time for Beck top replace the leprechan at 8 pm edt
I think BOR is jealous of the "big boy"---Rush.
Does BOR have any beliefs? I know he goes after perverts but does "phone sex."
BOR is just the latest Obama suck-up.
Probably goes after them to get new phone numbers.
Its funny how worked up the left gets about OReilly, as worthless as he is to anyone’s cause, left or right.
AMERICA'S Waterloo.
Anyone who doesn't give a rat's ass about this country jumping into the Socialist abyss is too stupid to voice an opinion.
The shackles of socialism are not easily cast off and there is no Western democracy to help us as we helped others in the latter half of the 20th Century.
In politics, "moderate" means unprincipled, can be persuaded either way the wind blows.
Like the song says..."You've gotta stand for something, or you'll fall for anything."
I wouldn't call O'reily an idiot, but I agree that he is an unprincipled attention whore...and that he usually sucks.
My wish list would be moving Beck to prime time, Mark Steyn and Megyn Kelly.
BoR is a former tabloid tv host. It’s all a game.
Oh and I forgot one thing on my wish list: Get rid of Shep.
"F'ing thing sucks!"
