In 1995, I was serving at Ft. Riley, KS as a Battalion S2. About a month before I PCS's our battalion received a new Command Sergeant Major, Floyd Carrier. I got to know him pretty well over the course of that month, then moved on to my next duty assignment, and ultimately left the Army in 2001.
That year I took a job in Louisiana, and found out I was working with CSM Carrier's younger brother. CSM Carrier retired and moved back to this area, and I got to see him at my friend and co-worker's place over the holidays or at other get togethers in the intervening years and even though we'd only served together for a month or so, we never ran out of stories about some of the personalities we both came to know.
I found out today that CSM Carrier passed away yesterday...so with the celebrity obits going around (i.e. Corey Hain, Merlin Olsen), I just wanted to see that a true American hero and friend got his just recognition as well...
Truly a great loss. Dopers die, CSMs run heaven.
Prayers up.
Rest In Peace, CSM Carrier, our prayers are with your loved ones.
Rest well Sergeant Major. Thank you for your service.

God bless your friend and his family.
