Well, if it’s full auto and you got 5 buddies standing next to you with the same, then it would work ok on elephants.

I heard/read where you need some sort of bullet with a steel shank in it to penetrate the skull ... I don’t think body shots would stop them very easily ....

Elephant poachers hunt elephants with AK47s.

They just drive up next to an elephant with nice tusks and a bunch of guys with full auto AK47s put about 30 rounds each into it. Elephants are made of flesh just like humans. Poke enough holes into a body and the internal organs will leak blood(among other things) out and then various body systems start to shut down... eventually if enough blood loss, the brain shuts down as well. The more holes, the quicker the process.

If you are trying to make a humane kill...well, that’s a whole nuther story.

And then there is this funny thing we westerners refer to as “sportsmanship”. For some reason, sportsmanship encourages us to use guns with very limited ammo capacity and antiquated loading mechanisms. The use of modern technology such as motorized vehicles is frowned upon.

Ok, I can see that - although we have some idiots from the East Side (Redmond/Bellevue/Renton Seattle area) who come over to the Olympic Peninsula to hunt cougars with 7mm magnums (we take them with 30-30’s)- they leave soon enough when the local guys (and some gals) confront them ...

You are 100% correct. Virginia does not allow deer to be hunted with any 22 caliber weapon.

Just what does it mean to be an “elephant gun?”

Hmmmm ...

A "tank gun" is found on tanks.

A "naval gun" is found on navy ships.

A "punt gun" is found on punts.

So ...

An elephant gun is found on elephants.

Perhaps they conceal them in their trunks ...

To prevent cheating, many professors responded to the programmable calculator by changing all the numbers on tests to be some multiple of 1, 2, 5 or 10, so that the arithmetic on the test became very east to do by hand. Then they increased the amount of reckoning you needed to do to get the answer.

I had an incredibly hard-nosed "Calcoolus" prof one time, and we did an exam on or including exponential growth/decay. So I did the pencil work, came out with the answer being (20/13)*e^(5/4) or whatever, and time was running out, so as I was entering that in my calculator to get the decimal approximation, I did the "5/4" part in my head and entered it as "1.2" thus getting the wrong answer. The guy gives me one point out of ten on that problem! Saving grace is he's a curve grader, so even though he's impossible on the points, it washes back out on the letter grade. I think I got an A one time on another exam which with his absurd scoring I got a 66 on. I sort of made it my mission in life to get a perfect score on one of his tests at least once, and I made it. Once!
