Letter: Tea Party puts ignorance and racism on display (No real evidence given, just name-calling)
The Portsmouth Herald ^ | February 27, 2010 | Rahul K. Sivaprasad

To the Editor:

A few weeks ago in Nashville, we witnessed the worst of America on display at the first national "Tea Party" convention.

The nativist, racist message that has been seeping out of this movement has never been put forward cogently until this point. Then former GOP Rep. Tom Tancredo walked on to the stage and confirmed what many believed about this so-called "movement."

Tancredo cited a lack of civics exams for people to vote. This was a tactic used by many states in the deep South to prevent African-Americans from voting. He also disparaged our nation's strong history of immigration by saying the president was elected by a bunch of people who couldn't speak English. Racism? Oh, I think so.

Then came former half-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, full of her frightening, yet uninformed "just folk" speak. How is that "hopey, changey stuff working out for ya?" she asked.

Well, Gov. Palin, a lot better than if you had been elected vice president. America is finally working its way out of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. We have a president who believes in diplomacy and understands the nuances of international relations. We have a president who respects the separation of church and state and, most importantly, we have a president who has a solid grasp of the English language. None of which, by the way, I believe would have occurred under a McCain-Palin administration.

According to the tea party movement, America has lost its way and its freedoms are being eroded. Wrong. What the tea party movement fears is progress, and this frightens them no end. Besides dressing up in colonial era garb and sometimes behaving obnoxiously, this misinformed group of people are clinging to an ideal of America that has long since left the station. No matter how hard they try, things will never go back to those "good old" days that say desperately long for; days of intolerance and bigotry; days of misogyny and economic exploitation. What worries me as well is that this movement is also the final nail, I believe, in the coffin of political civility.

In recent weeks and months, this page has been filled with hateful letters from the tea party movement and their supporters railing against the liberal establishment, full of rage, bombast, and bluster that would make Rush Limbaugh blush. They often write about putting liberals on notice. Fair enough. But they should be warned that liberals will meet them half way for a vigorous debate and it is my hope that it will be with civility and respect. After all, a robust political process is the essence of democracy.

Looks like Ellie Light changed her name. BTW, please show me where the phrase "separation of church and state" appears in the United States Constitution. This must be one of those Organizing for America scripts that the Left will be flooding the newspapers, magazines and talk radio stations with until November.

Dream on! Since when have the liberals been able or willing to do this?

Separation of church and state appears no where in the constitution.

Furthermore, it is my opinion that church and state were tied together forever in the preamble of the constitution via the securing of The Blessings of Liberty.

How dangerous would the power of Washington be were it not tempered by the morality of religious belief?

Blessings come from God, and so does our freedom, not from government. God is the last check on government. We remove that check at our own peril.

Either “Ellie Light”....or one of the al Qaeda members working for Eric “The Red” Holder in the Justice Dept.

In any case, likely written in crayon with huge block letters.

"things will never go back to those "good old" days that they desperately long for; days of intolerance and bigotry;"

"Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal".
--James (Jim) Cone,
African American Religious Thought: An Anthology (Paperback)
by Cornel West (Editor), Eddie S. Glaude Jr. (Editor)

SEAN HANNITY: But Reverend Jeremiah Wright is not backing down and has not for years and in his strong stance on the teaching of black liberation theology is nothing new. He had the same things to say last spring when he appeared on "Hannity & Colmes:"

WRIGHT: If you're not going to talk about theology in context, if you're not going to talk about liberation theology that came out of the '60s, systematized black liberation theology that started with Jim Cone in 1968 and the writings of Cone and the writings of Dwight Hopkins and the writings of womynist theologians and Asian theologians and Hispanic theologians, then you can't talk about the black value system.

HANNITY: But I'm a — reverend

WRIGHT: Do you know liberation theology, sir?

Obama's Church: Gospel of Hate
Kathy Shaidle, FrontPageMag.com
Monday, April 07, 2008

In March of 2007, FOX News host Sean Hannity had engaged Obama’s pastor in a heated interview about his Church’s teachings. For many viewers, the ensuing shouting match was their first exposure to "Black Liberation Theology"...

Like the pro-communist Liberation Theology that swept Central America in the 1980s and was repeatedly condemned by Pope John Paul II, Black Liberation Theology combines warmed-over 1960s vintage Marxism with carefully distorted biblical passages. However, in contrast to traditional Marxism, it emphasizes race rather than class. The Christian notion of "salvation" in the afterlife is superseded by "liberation" on earth, courtesy of the establishment of a socialist utopia.

Catholics for Marx [Liberation Theology]
By Fr. Robert Sirico
FrontPageMagazine.com | Thursday, June 03, 2004

In the days when the Superpowers were locked in a Cold War, Latin America seethed with revolution, and millions lived behind an iron curtain, a group of theologians concocted a novel idea within the history of Christianity. They proposed to combine the teachings of Jesus with the teachings of Marx as a way of justifying violent revolution to overthrow the economics of capitalism.

The Gospels were re-rendered not as doctrine impacting on the human soul but rather as windows into the historical dialectic of class struggle. These "liberation theologians" saw every biblical criticism of the rich as a mandate to expropriate the expropriating owners of capital, and every expression of compassion for the poor as a call for an uprising by the proletarian class of peasants and workers.

VAN JONES (Obama's former 'Green Jobs Czar'):

YouTube:
"Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Obama, speaks about Green Job Czar, Van Jones, at the Netroots Convention on August 12, 2009. Then Van Jones speaks about [a COMMUNIST] transforming [of] the whole society."

"Jones was the leader and founder of a radical group, the communist revolutionary organization Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM. That group, together with Jones' Elle Baker Center for Human Rights, led a vigil Sept. 12, 2001, at Snow Park in Oakland, Calif.

STORM's official manifesto, titled, "Reclaiming Revolution," surfaced on the Internet."

VAN JONES SHOCK ADMISSION [in his own words]: "Goal is Complete Revolution"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh4Z0V0zNQg
_________________________________________________

Transcript of YouTube video (link below):

“Right after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat if the civil rights leaders had jumped out and said OK now we want reparations for Slavery, we want redistribution of all the wealth, and we want to legalize mixed marriages. If we’d come out with a maximum program the very next day, they’d been laughed at. Instead they came out with a very minimum. “We just want to integrate these busses…”

But, inside that minimum demand was a very radical kernel that eventually meant that from 1964 to 1968 complete revolution was on the table for this country.

And, I think that this green movement has to pursue those same steps and stages.

Right now we say we want to move from suicidal gray capitalism to something eco-capitalism where at least we’re not fast-tracking the destruction of the whole planet. Will that be enough? No, it won’t be enough. We want to go beyond the systems of exploitation and oppression all together. But, that’s a process and I think that’s what’s great about the movement that is beginning to emerge is that the CRISIS is so severe in terms of joblessness, violence and now ecological threats that people are willing to be both pragmatic and visionary.

So the green economy will start off as a small subset and we are going to push it and push it and push it until it becomes the engine for transforming the whole society.

Here's the original source for the Van Jones quote about the time he spent in jail following the Rodney King/LA riots (Jones was arrested in "peaceful" protests in San Fran). It was in a 2005 interview he did with East Bay Express. They of course (what else?) claim he "renounced his rowdy Black Nationalist ways" since then: (link included below)

But in jail, he said, "I met all these young radical people of color -- I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.'" Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. "I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary." In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist."

From David Horowitz's FrontpageMag.com /DiscoverTheNetworks.org:

"Throughout its history, one of RCP's [Revolutionary Communist Party] principal objectives has been to foment civil unrest in the United States. The most notable example of such efforts occurred on April 29, 1992, when RCP members looted and trashed the downtown and government districts of Los Angeles, triggering the infamous Rodney King riots. During the days immediately preceding the violence, RCP -- which maintained close ties to the L.A. gangs known as the Crips and the Bloods -- had circulated throughout South Central Los Angeles a leaflet featuring a statement by RCP National Spokesman Carl Dix, titled 'It's Right To Rebel' -- a quote popularized by Mao Zedong.

Encouraged by Dix, RCP activists helped lead the riots that would leave 58 people dead, more than 2,300 people injured, some 5,300 buildings burned, and $1 billion in property damaged or destroyed. On the ten-year anniversary of the rioting, RCP member Joseph Veale fondly recalled the violence as 'the most beautiful, the most heroic civil action in the history of the United States.'"

Yep... no outcry when black panthers were using thug tactics to intimidate voters during the last election; heck even the AG sought no criminal investigation.

I guess it's a blind eye to liberal intolerance, and accusations at any conservative movement that speaks of liberty and freedom.

Yeah, I’d like to see that part about ‘’separation of church and state’’ too. If the government were serious about that, it’d stay open of Christmas. And I’d like to see where in the Constitution that a woman has a right to an abortion.

If it's not true, then why do we have multilingual ballots? We didn't need them for 200 years despite our strong history of immigration, becasue people are supposed to learn English to become citizens. We only need them if non-citizens are voting.
