NEW DEVELOPMENTS REGARDING RIFQA BARY’S SITUATION = GOOD NEWS

Dear supporters and friends of Rifqa Bary,

As you may be aware of, it has been mentioned that the authorities in Ohio are investigating the possibilities of charging and arresting Brian Williams, Rifqa’s friend who helped her get to safety the night she fled for her life. In my opinion, Brian did a courageous thing that I would hope any Christian would and will do in the future should they face similar circumstances. It is not too often that we get to see modern day examples in the likes of Harriet Tubman, but Brian William’s example of rescuing Rifqa on the night she fled for her life is one such example. Obviously, the news reports that he is under investigation is not welcome news. If the authorities in Ohio actually took the threat that Rifqa was facing seriously, they would certainly not be harassing those who helped her in any way, shape, or form. What is good news, however, is the fact that he has now secured extraordinary legal representation. Why is this good news? Let me explain…

The Thomas More Law Center is a nationally reputable and very able Christian law association that has cases in about 44 states nationally, and which has about 300 very able attorneys doing work for them pro-bono. An attorney with the Thomas More Law Center has offered to represent Brian Williams pro-bono, should it become necessary that he need legal representation, and Brian has accepted this offer. This is great news for a variety of different reasons.

A major reason that this is welcome news is simply because the Thomas More Law Center understands that the nature of this case is spiritual in nature. As I have stated before, Rifqa’s case is about two things. First, this case is about Rifqa’s testimony of faith in Jesus Christ. Spiritually speaking, Rifqa’s testimony has been under assault from the moment she became a Christian over four years ago. (There is a reason for this) She has had to live in silence and fear most of her Christian life. These attempts to keep her testimony silent continue even now. I am confident that the Thomas More Law Center understands this, and also understands that should Brian face legal action, this will be a very important part of his defense that they will not shy away from.

Another major reason it is welcome news that the Thomas More Law Center is representing Brian Williams is because they understand what they are up against. Rifqa Bary literally has an evil and aggressive machine called C.A.I.R. (Council on American Islamic Relations) that is out to silence her testimony and destroy her credibility. They are afraid of what Rifqa’s story could reveal about Islam to the west. According to numerous Islamic teachings in the Muslim holy books of the Qur’an and the Hadith, Muslims like Rifqa Bary who leave Islam and become Christian face death. This is a huge part of this case and the Thomas More Law Center clearly understands this. They will not be hesitant in bringing this up in court, and they are experienced in dealing with cases of this level of importance.

While many legal minds can debate the pros and cons of specific strategies that can be employed in court, one thing that is non-negotiable is the clear understanding that these attorneys need to have regarding the strategy of their opposition. C.A.I.R’s strategy has been to silence Rifqa’s testimony, redirect attention away from the threat that she was facing, and attack those who helped save Rifqa’s life. I am confident that the Thomas More Law Center will, not only not go along with this tone that has been set, but will aggressively oppose it.

As you can see, this situation calls for the continued prayers of all of us. I am reminded that now, more than ever, we need to keep our eyes on the big picture of what is happening with this case. There will be implications for our nation, and for millions of Muslims who need to be freed from the same kind of bondage that Rifqa faced. Many people are grateful to all of you who pray regularly, for the journalists who blog, for brothers and sisters in Christ who write notes of encouragement to Rifqa as Hebrews 13:3 speaks of, and for advocates like Pamela Gellar, who were instrumental in securing this representation for Brian Williams.
