As the European Union coalesces into a single entity should they be forced to give up competing as individual countries the same way the United States is not allowed to send competitors to represent each state?
We are assuming here that what is happening to Greece will not fracture the EU as no one here has yet opined it will (Thread Link).
Sound like a good start. It would be nice if we could restrict their representation in the UN accordingly.
I know some hippies would be happy to see a “joint” olympic team......LOL ALthough you know the jamaicans would dominate the sport!!
Commented in my post that is not as serious as that, but that may be next; Though with two with veto power it could not happen unless they wanted it to, and I do not see why they would allow for it to happen.
does Puerto Rico and Guam and American Somoa and US Virgin Islands get their own teams?
Whoope! That’s a hemp of an idea!
Yep, they do.
The plan is to eliminate all vestiges of national pride so that we may all be fitted into the great global circle jerk!
good point
Why, yes. All for one and one for all.
I thought so.
Pretty dumb huh? They don’t even pretend to be countries.
A lot of “non self governing territories” send teams.
In the 2008 Summer games, in addition to four of the five US territories, there were teams from:
Great Britain:
-Bermuda
-British Virgin Islands
-Cayman Islands
New Zealand:
-Cook Islands
The Netherlands:
-Netherlands Antilles
-Aruba
China (Red China):
-”Chinese Taipei” (Republic of China, aka Taiwan)
-Hong Kong
The European Countries will never, ever, give up their Olympic teams.
However, I personally, would have no trouble cheering for “Team Ohio”.
“Beautiful Ohio” (the State Song) might sound silly being played for a medal ceremony. However, “Hang on Sloopy” (our State Rock Song, yes we have one) would be cool...
