What do you call a story whose plot includes 11 skilled rogues coming together in an exotic locale for the ultimate teamwork takedown, and then disappearing into the mist to celebrate their acts of derring-do? Using their skills to find their target, track it, and then finally acquire it sounds like Oceans 11, right?
Yes, except this story features primarily British olim (immigrants to Israel) and instead of knocking over a casino, this story includes knocking out a terrorist. Using the Hollywood props of fake wigs, fake passports, fake tennis outfits, fake room service and a real cattle prod and poison, this assassination team slipped in to Dubai to find, track and ultimately kill Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a Hamas "military" official who was responsible for kidnapping and killing two Israeli soldiers . . . . more than 20 years ago. Ironically, "assassin" is an Arabic word. Message: unlike America, Israel has a long memory.

Mossad just screw up and it is useless to hide it.
Mossad succeeded in killing top Hezbullah Mughniyeh, top syrian general Suleimane, infiltrate the syrian Dar-el-Zor nuclear plant and dozen of more operations. Sometimes, the plan fails, and despite al-Mabhouh’s death, the agents were caught on camera.
Now, the agents were not caught, it is thus a semi-failure. But still a failure.
As David Kimche said about the bungle of Lillehammer : “an intelligence agency which never fails simply doesn’t do anything”.
The CIA lost 8 agents last month because of a Al-Qaeda double agent. It was a big defeat. Yesterday, they captured the number two of the Talibans. Huge victory.
It’s war. What counts is only the ultimate victory.
CIA should do be this stuff too. Oops - Forgot, we can`t assassinate leaders. It wouldn`t be nice at all.

Is it a failure if you are caught on tape in disguise and they still have no idea who you are? It isn’t perfect, but they did kill the terrorist without getting caught. In fact, they slipped out of the country before anyone knew he was dead. I’d say that is a success.
China and Israel use “honey pots” too. Besides, Hamas gets free weapons from Iran. All they can use. So why would Hamas owe money to Russian arms dealers?
This defies common sense. Too many people for what amounts to an easy operation.

In the 1980s Israel dressed up dozens of commandos to kill a PLO bigwig in Tunis. The men were dressed up as women, landed from boats, and one “woman” videotaped the entire operation. It is believed this was done to show that even Israeli women are tougher than the cowards of the PLO who hid in mansions in Tunisia.
I know this is not the same situation, I am just saying maybe there is more to it, such as providing multiple levels of assassins in case something does not go right. Or providing logistics to get out of Dubai.

Although the PA refuses to release their identities, it did admit that (at least) one of them is an official in the Palestinian Authority.

Hadn’t heard anything about PA’s being detained, though it woudn’t surprise me.
This just sounds to me like Russian mob stuff. It’s WAY too sloppy for Mossad. They’d have just taken him out from 500 yards, and not give a damn who knew it.

I agree with you, many of the muslims are KGB trained, so it fits they will fall for the kgb trap.
Actually, the Dubai police caught the people without their disguise. The photos of the agents published worldwide are real.
Dubai also claims to have transmitted their retinian IDs to Interpol.
BBC World Service Radio had a program last night where they had about a 20 minute conversation with and ex-CIA agent, a retired Mossad operative and a Russian who is an expert in targetted assassinations.
ALL three agreed that this was not a Mossad hit, but that it DID have all the hallmarks of the Red Mafia Russian Mob, which is filled with ex-KGB.
Meantime, however, both the Arab & European presses keep repeating that the Dubai Commissioner of Police says he has "proof" of Mossad culpability.
