The purpose of these writings is quite simple. We wanted to provide an easy to use tool in understanding Alinskys teachings, the tactics used by his followers, their motives, and the contrast of these to the spirit of America and her forefathers. Alinskys goal was revolution, just as our forefathers; but the outcome of each revolution are as different as freedom vs slavery. You can find the archives HERE
Today we will finish the prologue from Rules for Radicals.
Alinsky makes it clear that the goal is to change the world into what he thinks it should be, by working within the system. He wants people to feel frustrated, defeated, lost and futureless so they are willing to let go of the past. He claims that effective organization is thwarted by revelation, because the youth is too impatient and wants to go straight to the revolution. He likens the process to acts in a play. Introducing the players and the plot occurs in act one; developing them in act two; and the final struggle of good vs evil in act three. He warns that the organizer needs to be patient and understand the importance of setting the stage for the revolution.
Saul uses examples from China, Cuba and Russia to make his point. He mentions Lenin, Mao, Castro, and Che by name. A rush into the revolution while the other side has all the guns will result in a sweeping purge and mass executions. Please understand that this book was published in1971. Che is a hugely marketed face today amongst the youth. Mao and his atrocities are almost unheard of, or summarily dismissed when mentioned in media or on a college campus. These names have become symbols, and they have become heroes to our youth in many places in our country. In some twisted way, our youth has been convinced that they are embarking on a noble course for freedom? Yet, they have no concept of reality when it comes to what they are fighting to achieve.
The tactic used by Alinsky is to use class hatred to convince the youth that they have been robbed of freedom and a future by the evil rich. When I speak to college students I often approach this by asking them why they are enrolled in this college. They are there to make sure they can get a decent job, which leads to financial freedom. I ask them why on earth, would they hate the rich. Why would they buy ipods, sony play stations, nintendos, etc and then want to persecute the ones who created these products that they enjoy? I explain to them that they are here in this classroom working for a future for themselves. Why would they hate people who have achieved the very success they seek? And if I cant be the inventor or the CEO, I want to work for him. I would rather work for a rich man than a poor man any day. I want to be able to eat and feed my family.
Excerpt:
Remember: once you organize people around something as commonly agreed upon as pollution, then an organize people is on the move. From there its a short and natural step to political pollution, to Pentagon pollution.
You can plainly see that this all a game. It is a bait and switch. The premise is a gateway to the lie of the destination. Here are some more excerpts and analysis.
Excerpt:
The democratic ideal springs from the ideas of liberty, equality, majority rule through free elections, protection of rights of minorities, and freedom to subscribe to multiple loyalties in matters of religion, economics, and politics rather than to a loyalty to the state.
Loyalty to the state? No, Saul. Our loyalty should be placed within the reason for our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. WE the People are the state. WE the People are not interested in any democratic ideal. We are bound by a Constitutional Republic, one that secures the rights of all peoples, not just minorities; and one that does not subscribe to majority (read mob) rule.
Excerpt:
..the greatest enemy of individual freedom is the individual himself.
No, it is the individual is the key to his own freedom.
Excerpt: The price of democracy is the ongoing pursuit of the common good by all of the people.
The kind of democracy Alinsky aspires is actually to the detriment of the common good of all common Americans, and to the benefit of the elite.
He goes on to plead the case that the youth loses their identity as an individual if they choose to stay safe in the system and then therefore forfeit their freedom by being dependent upon the state. Yet, the ultimate goal of Alinsky is to create a state based on the absolute dependency upon government. He wants government to be the ultimate purveyor of justice; social justice, economic justice, etc. Whereas our foundation and entire purpose of Independence was based on the governments role to protect our inalienable rights endowed to us by our creator. Our government is the protector of our rights, not the supplier. Yes, We the People need to not become apathetic and shrink from the challenges of maintaining our freedom. Yes, We the People are saddled with the duty to stay ever vigilant over our elected officials to remain servants of the people, not overlords of our lives.
Now that we have finished the prologue and start into the first chapter of the book, we will start to unveil Alinksys contempt for the individual who dares stand alone. He needs followers, and he will go to any means to manipulate people to fight his war against true freedom and liberty.
sorry I didn't get anything posted last week...and a special apology to Kerretarded for taking so and messing with his schedule....
I also hope this piece is not too choppy. Just a lot of info to cover without re-typing the whole book! I am trying to keep to highlights that are important without overloading....
Thanks!
Excellent eee.
You’re doing a nice job with this - can you add me to you “alinsky” ping list? Thanks.
thank you Ali!!
;-)
Wow— Thanks so much....it means a lot to hear feedback....it is a LOT of typing! LOL!
Yes, please put me on the Alinksy ping list. thanks.
You have been added!
;-)
I love it when
“Rules” is discovered to be able to go both ways. He may be helping the “right” more than he had ever wished.
LOL - I was a member of The Woodlawn Organization in ‘63 and early ‘64. I never met Alinsky in person - but had a 20 to 30 minute phone conversation with him once - he helped me work through an ethical problem... On a personal level - I liked him - then again I hadn’t read his stuff...
Thanks thanks.
there is no doubt in my mind that he was likable....
most con artists are very likable and enjoy people...they just lack conscience....when I say most- I am not talking about the Madoff kind....
They make friends easily, and like to be helpful to others...but in the end, they ultimately will stop at nothing to meet their own desires....it is all about them, not really about hurting anyone else..
ALinsky truly believed he was helping other folks....but he lacked a soul, any moral compass..... he believed in what he was doing, but he saw him as the main character and everyone else a prop for his own production...manipulation came very easy to him....and many power hungry people have used his underhanded tactics to corrupt the youth and those in real need of self dignity and respect....
Sorry I missed the last ping. I got a lot of pings in the runup to the Super Bowl with people making picks.
The Archive is back up to date.
...with all its repressions we can still speak out and denounce the administration, attack its policies, work to build an opposition political baseTrue, there is government harassment, but there still is the relative freedom to fight. I can attack my government, try to organize to change it. That's more than I can do in Moscow, Peking, or Havana. This is an argument designed to appeal directly to what Limbaugh calls "young skulls full of mush." He is using emotional appeals when reason dictates otherwise. He induces young people to overthrow a government which allows dissent and protest to help install a government which will suppress dissent.
Earlier in his prologue, i, he says, "Few of us survived the Joe McCarthy holocaust of the early 1950s and of those there were even fewer whose understanding and insights had developed beyond the dialectical materialism of orthodox Marxism." While the communists lost a lot of inroads into government and Hollywood during the fifties, the term holocaust is absurd. Julius and EthylRosenberg were executed for spying for the Soviet Union, but to call one execution after a trail a holocaust is ridiculous, particularly when the charge was spying, NOT trying to change government policy.
We need to remember, however, that this book was written to the restless youth to encourage them into political action for the communists. It was written as an emotional argument, not a substantive one, and Alinsky counted upon the fact that the youth who read his book were not mature enough to research his facts, or challenge his reasoning.
I relate my understanding of our republic, to my understanding of the church. The church is not a building where people go to be together, rather it is individuals who have each chosen to become members of the body. Each member has freedom in Christ, but the freedom comes by being—in Christ—
Such is our republic, we the people are the republic and we remain a republic when we remain within the confines of the republic.
America is dangerously close to being completely out of the republic simply because the message of democracy has been so effectively preached that most Americans don’t even know that accepting democracy means subverting their own freedom within the republic.
Turning America back will require a thought revolution akin to a spiritual awakening. We do not need to look to Alinsky to apply his techniques to our worthy cause, because then we cheapen our cause to the manipulative level. Only one thing is required to turn people, and that is to help them remember their God given rights. Another words, keep the lessons of the past ever before them. Wisdom and truth are the ultimate weapon for freedom.
But understanding the Alinsky techniques is vital for us to know what tools are being used against us!
FANTASTIC POINTS!!!
Thank you so much! you and daisy are both contributing to these threads the way I was hoping people would....
really opening the discussion and sharing thoughts on things they notice!
THANKS SO MUCH TO BOTH OF YOU!!
it makes all the work put into this worth it...
it not only validates my own thoughts, but you both add more to what we are doing here.... so it is so much more and bigger than me and my ramblings!
EEE, great work!
Will post PART 5 tomorrow....it may be a bit of a rant as I have had the opportunity over the past few days to post on a few different blog sites which I normally don’t post on and the replies and discussions have opened my eyes to one glaring change that must occur...
I’ll see if I can work it in to my post.
I look forward to the rant!!
thanks so much!
The hippie generation (that are the people holding positions in our government today)... went to extremes in their anti establishment, rock and roll, free love, drugs, communes, Haight ashbury, live in a van, Volkswagen van. Flower power, etc. It is what has strongly formed the ‘baby boomer’ generation and all subsequent generations since. etc. Some of them grew up belatedly and moved into the the business of making a living and raising a family and finally got caught up in out doing each other in decadence of extravagance. Baby sitters raised the children of many. Etc.
Many factors came into play. Today we are amid a society that has been educated by professors, television, books, even Church programs about all of us being liberal/progressive, taking care of the poor whether they abide by any rules or standards or laws at all.
Our utter lack of having goals and real education for the masses is despicable. HOW TO UNDO ALL OF THIS?
The illegal immigrants coming from Mexico are accustomed to a absolutely destitution, no education, labor intensive, steal to survive environment.
It serves to create a voting block that yearn for the so called platform of the Democrats.
the Republicans are not good at getting the truth out in discernible language. It is DIFFICULT BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
Right now things are rather bleak. Face it.
To turn things around we must be more vocal with positive ideas and ways to develop them.
Some believed Obama was going to Washington to get wealth, and directly give it to them.
God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.
“Alinsky makes it clear that the goal is to change the world into what he thinks it should be, by working within the system. He wants people to feel frustrated, defeated, lost and futureless so they are willing to let go of the past.”
This is exactly the basis of the “Hope and Change” campaign. I began to notice the sowing of seeds of pessimism coming from Hillary when she first started her presidential campaign but when Mr. and Mrs. 0 got going it was overwhelming. The first time I heard of/read the list of rules for radicals, I just heard loud reverberations of those two voices in my head. This is how they set up their speeches—telling everyone how miserable they were and their audience already completely primed to blaming Bush and the R’s for everything they could think of, were all too willing to agree with this dispairing point of view. And then as soon as they are feeling sufficiently “futureless” they threw in the magic words of “Hope” and “Change”. The R’s can use the same tactic too this year and in 2012 and probably with greater justification but I would hope that somehow they can inspire with a positive vision reminding the people of who they are and what America really stands for. People need to be inspired to hope in America and not some politician selling himself as a self-annointed messiah.
