When you have walked in his shoes you will have earned the right to judge him. I have lost a couple friends in the last few years who were POW’s. You have no idea what these brave souls have suffered through. Every man can be broken and every one of them did break. Then they got back up and got ready for the next round. This went on for years.
You may not agree with his politics but he has earned the respect of this country.

Your devotion to McCain is touching but there is a legitimate question here.

The effect of prolonged captivity on a person's mental status has long been a subject of study, and it is not unreasonable to ask whether some of McCain's actions have been influenced by his history. It is well established that some POW's have done "what had to be done to survive," and that includes harm to fellow inmates. It is also known that captives sometimes adopt the point of view of their captors. No one can allege with certainty that McCain did any of these things, but the fact is that nothing can be ruled out a priori.

It is misguided to attack a person for asking these questions.

" You may not agree with his politics but he has earned the respect of this country."

First off, anyone who was a guest of the Vietnamese has my total sympathy, really.

But as I understand it, the Gods of Aviation did not smile on McCain, he crashed two aircraft during his student days. Kinda indicates he had no business in high performance A/C?

Please correct me if I'm wrong?

Last, he is reported to be good friends with Sen. Kerry, D-Mass.

Kerry - you may recalled - said US troops were evil and acted like 'Ghenis Khan' (sp?).

Sorry, but your friends are a reflection of who you are.

Even Benedict Arnold was a hero for a while.

Crap. You realize how little reason this your statement exibits? Just because it feels good to you does not make it right. Read a little, be an adult, use the brain God gave you.

Bullshxt!

I have a right to judge him because his actions as a politician effect my life and the lives of my children. He should be judged every day, just like the rest of the political class.

This is the same argument that the left uses when attempting to exempt criticism of president zero except they insert race where you have military service.

I didn't give up my right to free speech, or thought, just because McCain endured horrific events during his imprisonment.

What Bullcrap. REALLY. He may have been a hero then. He certainly is not a hero now.

One of my friends is a decorated Nam vet who blew a cork and raped a little girl. Am I to give him a free ride, on the basis of his service?

Not only "no", but HELL no. He betrayed the trust of his admirers by that act. A hero is a hero as long as he acts as a hero would. NO free ride for such a Traitorous Bastard.

Benedict Arnold was once considered a war hero.

Your logic is saying that if someone can go out and accomplish acts of bravery in the service of their country, then that gives them a free ticket to come home and act like a complete coward and traitor for as long as they feel like it?

Wrong. That kind of free ticket is nonsense. McCain might have been a hero several decades ago, but he’s completely ruined it with his actions as a politician. He now fights against the very principles he once shed blood for.

McCain has not only debased himself and his own name, he’s corrupted the very idea of being a hero.

I don’t know if McCain was brainwashed by his captors in an attempt to mold him into a secret weapon to perpetrate tyranny and statism on America from within. But if he was, it would explain his political behavior perfectly.
