Now, the Irish are weighing in on the proposed change in British law to expand the right of inhabitants to self defense. Irelands version of our ACLU wants to continue giving their burglars their protected status. The Irish Council for Civil Liberties said that changing laws to allow householders to have more freedom to fight back against invaders in their homes would lead to more violent burglaries. Current British law doesnt allow lethal force against home invaders. Today, Irish burglars know that if householders use more than non-lethal steps to stop their home invasions, that the householders will find themselves in prison, with the burglar himself probably getting probation.
The ICCL is against laws that would justify the use of lethal force to prevent someone from simply entering their property. They say that the burglars would come prepared to meet violence with violence, as if they arent prepared already. The Irish Council for Civil Liberties even said that Burglars had rights, and one of those rights was not to be killed. But they also said that burglars rights are diminished if the break into a home and are aggressive.
The practical effect is that the householder in Ireland has to wait to see if the home invader is going to be aggressive, or if he is armed. By then it is usually too late to act. If he is just there to steal your TV while you are watching it, then you fear the law if you use force to stop him. The ICCL stated that the Law Reform Commission had gone too far....

That is officially, and without doubt, crazy and contrary to human nature. They are nuts, demented, insane, moronic, and loopy. And they apparently hold ordinary, law-abiding people in great contempt.
Notice to Irish burglars: Better for you to stay on that side of the pond. We have quaint legalities here, like the Second Amendment and Castle Laws. Our concern for you would end at what type ammo we have loaded - buckshot, or hollow points, preferably.
How long before the “President of the World” decides to do the same here.
btt
Well, if one is going to go to prison for protecting self and family, one might as well make it worth one's while and kill the bastard(s).
'e tripped, Constable.
I checked with Arlen and it’s actually Scottish Law!

Invade your home and stay - invade your country and stay, what's the difference???
In the US, we’re allowed firearms and shovels. If necessary, an American should use one, then the other, and never report what happened. In Scotland/Ireland, with no Second Amendment, they just have the shovel. My suggestion is to use the shovel on the burglar until no longer needed, then use the shovel for its intended purpose, and as in the States, never report what happened.
The only right a burglar has is to choose whether to enter a free man’s home. Once the burglar makes the wrong choice on that decision, all rights belong to the homeowner.
The”elites” who write these laws are sure it’s never going to happen to them and in the off chance that it did, the laws don’t pertain to them.
As a Montanan once told me, “Shoot, shovel, shut up.”
Hey, burglars have rights here in the US too..
you have the right to the ~3 seconds for sights on target.
you have the right to a couple pellets of buckshot.
The reason the law defines the crimes of larceny, burglary and robbery is because they are all distinct crimes.
probation, but still dead.
