I have done fundraising and bundling for candidates and the GOP in the past, but I'm not familiar with this "money bomb" concept that both Scott Brown and Ron Paul's campaigns (among others) have been using. If you are or know someone who is, please let me know.
Did you say bomb?
Get people hyped about your candidate pick a date to have many people give money then brag about it. Other people will see this and think you have momentum and are a better candidate and will also want to give. It’s just like old school fund raising just publicly announced and coordinated at a certain day. Ron Paul started it with the anniversary of Guy Fawks Day as a way to send a message. Pick a notable date and spread the word is all you need to do.
The key really is organization and communication. All a money bomb is, really, is just a day that everyone donates at once and gets others to donate hoping that the amount raised in such a short time gets media attention.
First, decide on the candidate and date.
Next, define your communication methods- it may be good to buy a website. Also create meetup groups, twitter accounts, facebook accounts, etc.
Third, begin recruiting early adopters using said methods above. Create a strategy for those adopters to take the message out. This will involve strategies such as media lists, blog comments, forums, etc.
Fourth, start submitting press releases to media groups.
Next, as the time gets close to the money bomb, start kicking up the recruiting and communication methods.
On the day of the bomb, go crazy with your communication modes.
I believe the real key is early planning and set up. I don’t believe, for example, it would be affective to decide to do one today for next week- but a month from now would be practical.
Essentially a publicity gimmick. It worked for Scott Brown as it helped to nationalize a Massachusetts election.

This could be the start of some grass roots ‘how to’ threads. Good idea.
What candidate were you thinking of?
Conservatives this year and the person in my tagline.
I can agree with that, but she isn’t on a ticket anywhere yet. It may be fun to practice with one race. The CFL people have done these before, I think that FR needs to move to some very active internet grassroots work. If they can do it, we should be able to do it ten times better.
Fancy meeting you here mnehring - I knew you liked us Paul supporters all along.
You’ve probably been over to Daily Paul often enough to know how a money bomb works - no?
Isn’t the CFL an offshoot of Paul’s campaign?
Haven’t been to the CFL in ages, I just know that one thing they were able to do is raise money, even if it didn’t translate into votes.
One needs to learn from all type of events, we can see what the CFL did right, and wrong. They were good at raising money, but they way they did it like scheduling their bombs on Guy Fawkes day, turned a lot of people off so the execution had a long term backfire.
Scott Brown’s money bomb, on the other hand was a very successfully organized event and I was surprised how it was put together so quickly. It didn’t have any associations or gimmicks that caused it bad press, it was all about the candidate.
Patrick Hughes’ money bomb going on right now. He is the conservative candidate in the IL Republican primary running for Obama’s senate seat.
