Arlen Specter in HUGE Trouble Trails Republican by 14 Points
The Lid/CNN ^ | 1/27/10 | The Lid

Arlen Specter would say that the latest Franklin and Marshall Poll is not "acting like a lady" According to poll released today, if the Pennsylvania election was held today, Specter would be retired to the farm tomorrow.

The poll reports that republican challenger Pat Toomey leads Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania by double digits, 45 percent of likely voters back Toomey, with 31 percent supporting Specter and 20 percent undecided.

As recently as December the same poll showed Specter and Toomey were tied. Specter, a five-term senator, switched parties from Republican to Democrat last spring announcing to the Democratic party, "I am your 60th vote." Of course Scott Brown's victory has made Specter the 59th vote

This isn’t news to anyone who’s been paying attention.

Spectre was a walking political dead man the day he supported porkulus. His defection to the dems was an act of desperation that had no chance of helping him.

There are a few things certain about PA fall election. 1) Unless some sort of huge thing turns up against the Republican candidate, a Republican will be the next Governor. 2) Spectre will not be re-elected, hell he may not even survive the Democratic primary.

What’s the spread between Toomey and Sestak?

Pretty big, though it has more to do with name recognition at this point. Gut instinct tells me Toomey versus Sestak would be closer than Toomey versus Specter, though I'm asserting this dogmatically.

heh heh.....and here is the beautiful part!

Obama and the DNC are almost forced to come in and campaign for him. To do otherwise would kneecap any future attempts to recruit aisle-jumpers. The unions are highly pissed about his stoning of card check and are going to throw full weight behind Joe Sestak. So Obama is going to have to come and campaign for Arlen in the primary (as George W did last time out), butting heads with the unions, and then come back in the fall. Either one of which is likely to fail.

And decades of having Arlen as my Senator has taught me that if anything he is far, far too dense to accept a Chris Dodd-style phone call about “getting on with his life’s work”

heh heh!

"Gotta support Sphincter, ‘cause he is a reeeeepublican! /sarc"

LOL...John Cornyn, head of the NRSC, April 14, 2009:

"My job as head of the NRSC is to guide the GOP back to a majority in the Senate," he added. "I can't do that without Arlen Specter. With him as our nominee, I can target our campaign resources toward beating Democrats and growing the Senate Republican Conference."

Didn’t the RNC back him instead of Toomey the last time round?

Yeah, it would be nice to see Toomey shellac him....

“That’s sort of what I see as the new dem strategy to grasp onto power. Force out the most vulnerable, then run a “fresh” candidate”

That’s what I’m starting to think too. It’s as though, as a party, you can essentially run against yourself (your old self).

I take no joy in other peopls’ problems, however, Mr. Specter needs to leave the Senate. He has been there too long and done little good for the nation.

I do. Schadenfreude!

Let the people speak. He was/is a traitor to the people that elected him. Specter like others before him tend to become much too important to have the responsibility to honor campaign promises.

God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.

All these dems are going to find cushy appointed govt jobs to go to where they are unaccountable.

Not Arlen. He reminds me of the ancient greek leader Alcibiades. Alcibiades was an Athenian leader who did some great things but ticked off the wrong people so he got exiled. Rather than retire to some cave, he went to Sparta and led an army against Athens! But then he slept with the Spartan queen and was ushered out so he brokered a deal to come back to Athens. On a short leash, he ticked off people again and went to Persia and offered to become one of them! The persians declined and Alicibiades was left unable to return to Sparta, Athens, or Persia. He was truly persona non-grata.

Arlen was a dem, then he opportunistically switched to the GOP but never really endeared himself there, voting like a dem still. Then he switched back to dem but they didn't trust him, being a republican just a week ago and all that. Now they will cut him loose happily, no strings or favors owed or granted. The GOP will never take him back, so he will soon be rejected by the right, the left, and the middle. What a way to end your career.

If Sestak has any snap at all, he'll sit out this election and let Snarlin' Arlen get his comeuppance.
Sestak will certainly loose and surely he knows it. If he doesn't realize that, then he's a bigger fool than Arlen.

"Sestak will certainly loose and surely he knows it. If he doesn't realize that, then he's a bigger fool than Arlen."

From my read of Sestak he is too arrogant to be deterred by reality.

I have no doubt that he has assurances that the Party money and the Impostor-In-Chief himself will be behind him.

My read is that Sestak is fully saturated with the embalming fluid of Obamunism, and therefore is likely to hold fast to believing that reality counts for naught.

Therefore its full steam ahead, as the naval academy grad and shoddy former officer would say.

"What a way to end your career. "

Maybe it will give him the opportunity to finally learn to take his own advice and "Act like a lady!".
