Michelle Malkin: Ellie Light's IP Address Looks like it Originates in California
Associated Content (AC) ^ | January 26, 2010 | Marc Schenker

Michelle Malkin has reported that Ellie Light's IP address looks like it originates somewhere in California. Appearing on Hannity last night, she brought the audience up to speed with regards to the blogosphere's sleuthing efforts in outing this fake, Obama-praising fiend. Based on the efforts of two bloggers in particular—one by the name of Sabrina Eaton at the Plain Dealer in Ohio and the other being a guy who goes by "Patterico"—we know all these details about the incognito coward who calls herself "Ellie Light" and who's nothing but a pro-Obama, pro-Dem spreader of their talking points. California appears a plausible place for Ellie Light because she has also used a California address in her fake newspaper submissions. And if you think about it, what other states besides California would produce the most fanatical, pro-Obama acolytes? I can't think of any others, except for maybe states in the Northeast.

California and Northeast?

Big, big difference.

White Democrats in the Northeast (except Vermont) vote the way they do because they hate Republicans. A lot.

White Democrats in California, as far as I can tell, really believe this shit.

These Letters to the Editor all from "Ellie Light" have appeared in New Mexico's Ruidoso News to across the country in South Carolina's The Sun News and every other conceivable locale in between.

Give me a break, Mr Schenker.

Am I supposed to believe that this letter really has appeared in "every other conceivable locale in between" Ruidoso and South Carolina?

What is served by making such a ridiculous statement?

Ellie Light’s letter, defending President Obama, reads, in part:

“During his campaign, Obama clearly said that an economy that took eight years to break couldn’t be fixed in a year, that Afghanistan was a graveyard of empires and would not be an easy venture for us. Candidate Obama didn’t feed us happy talk, which is why we elected him. He never said
Who is Ellie Light? America could solve our health care, economic and security problems without raising the deficit. Instead, he talked of hard choices, of government taking painful and contentious first steps towards fixing problems that can’t be left for another day.”

Ellie Light also seems to have multiple addresses across the country. According to Hot Air, virtually the same letter from the same person has appeared in at least 62 newspapers, some large and well known such as USA Today and the Washington Times, some small and local such as the Los Banos Enterprise and the Danbury News-Times. In each case Ellie Light claimed to be a local resident.

From what I’ve heard, I think it’s showed up in about 30 different local papers from coast to coast.

Sheesh that's a great big leap of logic, dontcha think?

She faked a California address, so she might be from California...

Who is this Schenker clown?

Maybe so, but I can conceive of way more than 30 locales.

http://patterico.com/2010/01/23/ellie-light-obama-astroturfer-or-very-very-very-energetic-but-independent-letter-writer/

I suppose you can conceive of some the locales the spammer missed, but then not all reporting is in yet

Question is why so many newspaper editors published this letter???????

I thought there was a letter selection process!!!

My hometown editor published this propaganda. But when I write a letter to the newspaper, I get an email asking for permission to publish, address, and phone number

So I’m thinking that these persons are publishing by “Bot”. That is, once they register to all these papers and websites; they have a script (a computer program) that will blast the same message all over.

Big deal.

The origin of a single person spamming the media is irrelevant. A single fanatic or political operative can live anywhere. California or Timbuktu or next door.

Have to make sure the IP address is authentic, not a proxy service (like Anonymizer which is in California).

If I understand IP addresses properly, they cannot be faked, as a residential address can. I understand the each computer has a distinct numerical code when connected to the internet. This unique code cannot be faked. Such codes have been used to trace criminals, particularly purveyors of kiddie porn.

That's a really astute observation. I believe there is much truth in it. I live in NJ and here they would vote for an eggplant if you put a suit on it and put a (D) next to it's name on the ballot. It's not about the policies, it's about the party. In this regard, we of the Northeast can at last claim to have achieved racial harmony, because on this matter of party first, most whites and blacks are 100% in agreement.

It appeared in Sunday’s local paper...in Russellville AR...If it appeared here then, yes it has appeared from Ruidoso to South Carolina...do a google. There is a list you would be interested in. The statement might not be as ridiculous as you have assumed...

I think you may be talking about the MAC address in the actual hardware, not the assigned IP address. If I’m not mistaken, even those numbers can be spoofed/masqueraded also.

“Ellie Light” is likely a small group of David Axelrod’s minions. There is no Ellie Light and the IP addy is just a ruse.

The IP number that a web site sees can easily be faked by anyone. It is not the number that is uniquely linked to your physical computer.

There is free software that anybody can download and install. It randomly assigns an IP number that can orginate from anywhere around the globe. I've used it to try it out and it works great.

So, using this TOR software a single person in a single location can appear to be sending from anywhere in the world, no problem.

62 newspapers???!!! Ha, I love the good sleuth-bloggers who have uncovered this. I think BO himself is writing them.

As a Letter to the Editor writer myself, I think it is not so easy to be consistently published. Thanks for sleuthing, Michelle et al.

there's no way you can make the case that Massachusetts, Maryland OR Maine is between Ruidoso and S.C.

All I'm saying is that it's a ridiculous, pointless claim.
