Brett Favre's Future, Retirement and The Haters
TheCypressTimes.com ^ | 01/25/2010 | John G. Winder

There is much smack talk on the internet today, primarily by what appear to be pimple-faced Cheeto-munching-types who most likely never held a football let alone dared to imagine what it might be like to breath the same rarified air that fills the lungs of an NFL Quarterback the likes of Brett Farve.

If the internet has done one thing it is to have spawned an endless army of wannabe athlete arm-chair quarterbacks and no-nothing experts on every sport imaginable or athlete imaginable. Their current targer: Brett Farve.

after the beating he took last night (not to mention the turnovers in the red zone by his runners and recievers) the man should be lauded not ridiculed for keeping his team in the game and into overtime.

He took a real beating last night. Every throw he makes cannot be expected to be perfect. It by no means looked like Dan Marinos last game.

Favre got beat the hell up. It was painful to watch him get knocked down like he did. But he kept getting back up.

I wondered if Favre was being dramatic, maybe his last hurray, or if it really was his love of the game.

Whatever my opinion, I had to have respect for the man who took it - like a man.

So then, Favre didn't have two interceptions and a fumble last night?

“No-nothings,” seriously? He lost me there. And Favre did pull the prototypical Brett Favre playoff performance. He was brave, he was tough, he made miracles happen and he ended his team’s chance of winning with a terrible pick. Oh, and that site needs to get a new editor and/or better writers.

Winder nails it. You Brett haters can rant all you want, but most of your achievements will not come close to what he has done.

For the record, I grew up in Wisconsin and have been a die-hard fan since the "Glory Years".

Was I disappoined when Brett retired, only to come back as a Jet and later as a Vike? No, I don't own his body, heart and soul. He has the right to live his life as he chooses to. I am 62 and wouldn't, when I was his age, have wanted to get the heck pounded out of myself...but he was out there last evening, taking his licks and going down fighting.

And yeah, he through some picks, but the Vikes were having serious problems holding onto the ball, also. It was a great game and if he does retire for good, or temporarily, it was a great game to go out on.

Heh. I sent the following comment at the website: "'If the internet has done one thing it is to have spawned an endless army of wannabe athlete arm-chair quarterbacks and no-nothing experts on every sport imaginable or athlete imaginable.' I don't know much about 'no-nothings' but I've heard about 'Know-Nothings' and I believe if one wants a career in journalism, one should rely on something more than just their spell-check."

It's being '...set to a pending status for our editors to review'. Uh, huh.

I’ve been a Saints fan for over 20 years.
Last night was the first time I’ve EVER rooted agains Bret Favre.
When he goes, a part of history goes with him.
BTW, Bret: that’s not a spaceship, it’s what the ceiling lights on the Superdome look like....

Have to agree with you.

Really rooted for him last week to beat the Cowboys and he did.

Had to root against him against my Saints.

If he comes back next year, great for him, if not, there is always a QB coaching job out there and a head coaching a few years later.

Couldn’t have said it better. As a life-long Packer fan, I enjoyed the chance to root for Favre once again. I just wish I could do so once more in two weeks. But, oh, well, I’ll have to ‘cross over’ and root for the Colts instead. No way will I root for NO.

Yes my friend. I agree. I like Farve because he has the will to win attitude. He is like Majic Johnson. I know I am from Michigan. But to beat his way back to the Vikings just to beat the team that he took so far that stuffed him (Green Bay) is amazing. I wanted him to win. I admire that spirit.

I may be a “pimple-faced Cheeto muncher”, but I at least know that “breath” is a noun, not a verb.

Favre once again let his team down when it really mattered, but he still had a helluva season.

Certainly wasn't his fault that there were 12 men in the huddle when they were but a kick away from going ahead. He saw the problem and was signaling frantically for a time out when the flag was thrown.

You are right on point saying he should be lauded for keeping his team in there to the bitter end. I am not particularly a Vikings or a Saints fan. I was pulling for Favre, sorta like I voted for Sarah Palin. The Vikings and John McCain were just there!

Great New Orleans, just great. Your victory has ensured that we’ll be dealt another off-season of posturing by Brett Favre to decide whether or not he’ll play next year. I’m sure ESPN is absolutely orgasmic at the prospect.

I still love Favre. Always respected him, always will unless he turns out to be a drug abuser or something. yes I am a Vikings fan, I even liked him at GB.

I am generally not too critical, but there were five mistakes in spelling and/or context in one paragraph!
