Scott Brown, a Protestant, Holds Special Relationship With Local Cistercian Nuns

Friday, January 22, 2010 Jim Hoft

The nuns from Mount Saint Mary’s Abbey in Wrentham, from their Facebook page.

Senator Scott Brown, a protestant, raised money for an order of Cistercian Catholic nuns in Wrentham. Brown has a special relationship with the order. As a bonus, the nuns told him they pray for him three times a day. Catholic Vote Action reported:

The [Brown] family … has developed a special relationship with an order of Cistercian Catholic nuns at Mt. St. Mary’s Abbey in Wrentham.

Many of the 48 nuns are from other countries, and Brown’s first contact was in response to their request for help on an immigration matter.

“It has turned into a beautiful friendship,” said Sister Katie McNamara, the monastery’s nurse.

Brown raised money to buy a special golf cart to transport elderly sisters, and, with his wife, has assisted efforts to raise $5.5 million needed to replace the order’s 50-year-old candy factory with an environmentally friendly plant, complete with solar panels and a wind turbine. The order is self-sustaining through sale of its candies and fudges.

“We pray for them every day,” Sister Katie said of Brown and his family.

“When you have nuns praying for you three times a day and you’re not Catholic, anything that anybody can do or say about me, it’s Teflon,” Brown said. “It bounces right off.”

But what is Brown’s voting record or stance on abortion? How about same sex marriage?

Asking that question makes it quite clear you don't understand Jesus Christ.

Well McCain and wife are promoting same sex marriage and Sarah is campaigning for Juan McCain.

Scott killed ObamaCare which was going to take taxpayer money to kill babies.

From one of my earlier posts:

1) He will stop Obamacare which will save many unborn babies lives.

2) He opposes using taxpayer funds for abortion.

3) He opposes partial-birth abortion.

4) He supports laws that would provide parents and women notice, counseling, and information prior to an abortion.

5) He will uphold the right of Catholic hospitals from administering abortion or emergency contraception.

6) He supports traditional marriage.

Is he perfect? No. But with the liberal history in MA, he is the best we can do right now until we can change their hearts and minds with education and existing/emerging technologies that will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that life truly begins at conception.

John McCain is NOT supporting Gay Marriage....His lesbian daughter and wife are. If you have evidence that he is...PLEASE post it...I haven’t seen it.

According to “on the issues” Brown is pro-abortion with restrictions. Against partial birth abortion, against federal money for abortions and against forcing employees to participate in abortions. He is for informed consent as well as parental consent.

And he voted for defining marriage as being between a man and woman.

I know! McCain isn’t campaigning for same sex marriage, just his wife. Which I do not understand.

Yeah, I think I can live with his stance at the moment; but reserve the right to protest against any abortion support he may give!

Hey, he is much better than the one he is replacing! Whooo Hoo!

Well, the Bible says, ‘bad company corrupts good morals”....could it also be true that good company improves bad morals?

Thanks for a post with some common sense. Some on here have only one issue and that is abortion. While it definitely is against the laws of God, and is murder, it isn’t going to stop the takeover of our country. Healthcare, weak on national defense, etc., - are!

I urge some to broaden their horizons and stop harping on one issue as if it is the only one we have to worry about. People will answer to God for what they do as individuals. Scott Brown’s views will be what he answers to - not me. Let’s look at the good and stop the nitpicking. Its getting sickening.

I prayed for Scott Brown to win and I didn’t forget to say thank you when he did. We need to see what happens next, then decide how to act.
