When Ron Jeremy spoke out in a debate, he said that video games were more harmful to children than pornography. Now, it seems, the Hedgehog has an issue with the internet.
>
"I just hate the internet in general," he said.
>
"It's good because you can research any topic," Jeremy explains. "In my day, we went to the encyclopedia for that. Nowadays, though, kids can't memorise anything. No dates, no times tables, no history. If there is anything you need to know, you just press a few buttons. We could be giving rise to a generation of idiots.
"I am a former school teacher, I have a masters degree and two BAs, and I think the internet is making people stupid."

One of my science teachers owned a strip club but he was a good teacher. When I got older and spoke to him about it he simply pointed to businesses run by other teachers I had and asked if it made any difference in their teaching. I had to admit that it didn’t.
However he wasn’t making porno movies in the afternoon.

Please do. I'm not attacking him, I just think his comment was bizarre considering how the Internet has improved the lives of everybody.
Yes, it's true that he does have a Master's Degree in teaching special needs kids. There's another porn star, Asia Carrere, who's a fricking member of Mensa. Weird.

He is only a couple of weeks older than I am.

If it is indeed him he will not cop to it for me.

I work at a university and he has a point. The writing, comprehension, and logic skills of the students coming in gets worse and worse each year! I've seen papers that I would have been ashamed to show my sixth grade teacher that get passing grades.

We could be giving rise to a generation of idiots.Or we could be raising a generation that has access to unprecendented volumes of information never before seen in the history of the world.
For starters, the Internet should be capitalized.
To: mamelukesabre
Humm Not sure this BD party is held at a brothel and we are usually focused on other things.
To: decimon
Nowadays, though, kids can't memorize anything. No dates, no times tables, no history. That is a very interesting observation, and all of a sudden I believe Jeremy was a school teacher because he sounds so much like the ones I work with. Knowledge isn't hyperlinks, it's what goes on to create them.
That said, I have a a great and increasing respect for what this generation of young scholars brings to the table. The kids are all right.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
You are so right! Jeremy is pissed that anyone can get for free on the web what he used to get big bucks for.

Ron Jeremy raises a good issue but I’m not so sure you can limit its cause to the internet. Online you can find grade school tests given in American schools from a century ago. They cover what now would be material from high school and even low college levels. This trend has been underway for a long time.
