This is one of those rare moments when the conventional wis dom in Washington is right. The Democrats are poised to have a bad year; the only argument is over how bad it will be. And that question rests on whether or not the Republican Party crafts an agenda voters will support.
So far the GOP has shrewdly been the "party of no." Since I disagree with so much of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda, I happen to think that "no" is the correct position on the merits. But that's not the point. Saying "no" has worked because that's what most Americans say, too.

“No”, even it if is the right response, is just so...well, negative.
To appeal to voters needs to have an idea. An alternative policy that is right, true and inspiring.
He makes some good points but Goldberg fancies himself as one of the elites.
You are dead-on right. People always, ALWAYS vote “for” something rather than “against” something. This is Politics 101; something the Republicans have forgotten, it seems. Time for a refresher course, methinks.
Goldberg loves Romney:

Thank you.
First of all, the republicans need to find something to inspire people with. When the GOP was founded, it was abolotionism. On the plus side, it worked and they won. On the negative, because they won they can’t use it now. They need a new cause. Unfortunately, the highest priority for the US at the moment is to balance the books and reduce the national debt. If that isn’t addressed (and quickly) everything else will go belly-up anyway, and tragically it doesn’t seem likely that “fiscal responsibility” is a battlecry that is going to emotionally move the masses.
With no clearly articulated plan for steering the country in the supposedly right direction (pun intended), even if the democrats have a ‘bad’ year, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Republicans will have a good one.
Step #1: Get rid of that Boob Michael Steele
Step #2: Tell Newt to STFU
Step #3: Get a chairman with conservative political chops, Karl Rove, Tommy Thompson, etc...
Step #4 Stick to conservative princples, and keep educating the American people as to why they work.
The Republicans need to have a bad year, so long as the Democrats have a worse one. We need to vote all incumbents out and get fresh blood in there that will, among other things, investigate and prosecute their corrupt predecessors regardless of party.
We ordered two Dominos one-topping pizzas last night. The sauce is indeed much zippier and more flavorful, and the crust is much better too.
Good job, Dominos!
Now, if only the RNC could look into the mirror and change course as well.
Nice thought, won't happen in a million years, but would be very nice if it happened. What people don't realize is that this "fresh blood" you speak of is already picked out for us. Politicians with no ties to any lobbiest group or power broker don't exist in this world. All our so called "leaders" are already corrupted before they even announce they are going to run for any office. It just hasn't sunk in to most people that they have no control over who gets elected, what issues are discussed as "important", where funding goes.
The only thing you can look out for and should be concerned with is yourself, your family and those friends you care about. EVERYONE else can go to hell. It doesn't matter what the clown show in DC does, you can't control it or influence it because if you're honest, and won't play ball with the real people in charge, you don't even get to play the game. Politicans are corrupted from the moment they have to cut their first deal, usually its the one where they need to make promises to get money to run, you can't find honest people in that environment, its impossible.
I didn't mean this to turn into a rant, and if i'm offending you, I'm sorry, but according to my cynical, bitter sense of humor, I found it funny that this guys signature achievement in life (according to the article) was making a "very good power point presentation" and thats why he was dangerous.
If your answer is "no corruption" then you will be very dissapointed/frustrated in life. We are all inherently corrupt, if you're at work and your friend comes in and wants something out of the ordinary, likely you will do it if its not going to cause you too much grief, however you likely wouldn't go the extra mile for someone who wasn't your friend. Even if you are a very generous person by nature, you still go farther for friends than you do for someone you don't know. What most people don't realize is that that is a corrupt way to do business. Its not too much of a stretch to go from that benign example of corruption to taking bribes, or exthortion.
So the question remains...How much corruption are you willing to put up with.
