The Obamas: Conspicuous Sacrifice vs. Conspicuous Consumption
The American Thinker ^ | January 06, 2010 | John Dietrich

A recurring theme of the Obama White House is "sacrifice." The president has repeatedly stressed the need for us to tighten our belts. He has informed us, "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ..." During the campaign, his wife told us that we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. Shortly after the election, the president said that "[e]verybody's going to have to give. Everybody's going to have to have some skin in the game."

This emphasis on "sacrifice" is presented as a simple matter of justice. We are told that we live in a nation that comprises a small fraction of the earth's population, yet we consume a disproportionate share of the world's resources.

The Obamas do not expect us to sacrifice alone. They believe that they have established a long pattern of self-sacrifice. According to Michelle Obama, one of the Obamas' first major decisions after graduating from college was, "Do I go to Wall Street and make money, or do I work for the people?"

This from the guy who has done more world traveling as President than any before him. This is the guy who vacations in Hawaii while terrorism retakes America.

This President and his wife deny themselves NOTHING. They live like royalty.

“This President and his wife deny themselves NOTHING. They live like royalty.”

On public money, they are probably very frugal with their own.

As I read this article and it discussed sacrifice and global teamwork, it reminded me of a recent “teamwork seminar” I was forced to attend. At the end, the facilitator asked for final thoughts. There were many bleeding-heart liberals there who gushed about how helpful the seminar had been to them. I sat there stoically, biting my tongue until the leader looked at me and said, “How about you?” Before I could stop myself, I blurted out that all this collaborative teamwork “feel good” crap sounds wonderful, but it doesn’t change the fact that we don’t share a collective brain and if you build a team of folks with single digit IQs you will still get single digit IQ solutions. Unfortunately, the true creative and critical thinkers will carry the load for the ...well, less fortunate.

LOL

Goes right along with “Who Moved my Cheese?”

No one moved your cheese. We ate it and washed it down with wine.

As Michelle told her Zanesville audience, "So I tell people, 'Don't cry for me.'"

you know, Eva Peron always facinated me, her husband and politics aside. And one thing I can safely say with confidence is, Michelle is no Evita. 'Don't cry for me', indeed! some people are completely delusional.

Can you believe the chutzpah of these people??

If I were The Wookie, I wouldn’t channel Evita. Things didn’t end well for her, as I recall.
