Vote Buying "Perfectly Legal" Says Senator [Satire]
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 2 January 2010 | John Semmens

Posted on 01/02/2010 10:39:22 PM PST by John Semmens

Average voters might be shocked to learn that bribery is legal when congress does it. Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) rebuffed the uproar over the financial inducements granted to fellow Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb) in order to secure his vote for the healthcare bill.

“Giving a person money or other benefits to buy his vote would be illegal if a private individual did it,” Harkins said. “The thing that most people forget, though, is that process of legislation is the making of laws. That means that whatever congress puts in the laws is, by definition, legal. The remarkable aspect of this whole affair is that the price for obtaining the needed votes was only $1.2 billion. This is small potatoes in light of the fact that we could have granted as much as we wanted to as many people as we wanted because we make the laws.”

Senator Nelson pronounced himself “dumbfounded by the outrage at my bargaining, especially from citizens in my own state. I feel like I’m being unfairly singled out just because I did a better job of bringing home the bacon for my constituents. Voters in other states are the ones who ought to be upset that their senators sold out for so much less than I did. I just don’t know what this world is coming to.”

This IDIOT should not only be drummed out of office for perverting his job and the constitution, but he should also be thrown in jail. Ignorance is no defense for breaking the law. -At least, that would be the case if I broke the law, wouldn’t it???

Harkin demonstrates the ego of many of those who are in power now. They believe themselves Gods. Whatever they do is legal because they make the laws? What kind of bullcrap is that?

I know this is satire, but that’s what makes it so outrageous. The “law”makers are probably really thinking this privately.

25 years ago I worked for the IRS, and the management of that outfit seriously thought they could do anything they wanted, and that no laws prevented them from ignoring little things like statute of limitations, bankruptcy, clerical and math errors in tax assessments, etc.

I guess he forgot about that pesky inconvenience called the United States Constitution.

Just a suggestion here...but couldn’t we organize a web site called “Bribes.com” and have a state by state list of things that we (the public) would like to have included in our next bribe?

Then each senator could review the website and get the best choice for his next bribe? This way....bribes would be wonderful and pleasant things that we’d all appreciate.

Later, we could even start a site called “Bribes_for_Senators.com” where we could put up our proposed bribe to the senator for his re-election campaign. If he honors the request...then we complete the bribe by voting for him.

At some point....we’d all then just accept bribes as being wonderful parts of American culture and politics.

Isn’t this the same guy who falsely claimed he flew combat missions in Viet Nam? The guy has already shown he has no honor or integrity so this is not unexpected. I can’t bblame a scumbag for being a scumbag. I blame the idiots who elected Harkin knowing he is a scumbag liar with no integrity.

Elected him? And reelected him four times? This is not acceptable. Yours is a good response. Thanks.

Senator Nelson pronounced himself “dumbfounded by the outrage at my bargaining, especially from citizens in my own state. I feel like I’m being unfairly singled out just because I did a better job of bringing home the bacon for my constituents.

Sparkling evidence that the good Senator has absolutely no idea what his constituents think, and furthermore could care less. He has no core principles, he has fooled much of the people much of the time, thus enabling him to become a fool of the people. In his defense, with such an upbringing, what else is he to think?

Bringing home the bacon? Not a bad analogy. Taxpayers to democrats are just farm animals to be slaughtered and eaten.

I no longer care that my politicians have no decency, or that there are no longer any statesmen in my government.

I could care less that they are all thieves and liars that prey on hard working Americans and now our unborn progeny.

What I do expect and demand as a minimum qualification for national leadership is that the scum we elect to represent us are at least pro American.

Is that too much to ask?
