"Hollywood, STFU." reviews "It's Complicated"

I enjoy a good romantic comedy, however my bar for “good” in that genre is set pretty high. Despite that, writer/director Nancy Myers clears this bar with “It's Complicated”. In it she continues to explore the theme of “courting in the older set” which made her previous film, “Something's Gotta Give”, a success.

Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin play Jane and Jake. They've been divorced for ten years. Their relationship is polite, but distant. Jake is remarried to Agness, played by Lake Bell, the much younger woman for whom he left Jane. One of Jane and Jake's three children is getting married and the two find themselves unknowingly booked at the same hotel. The night before Jane is to head home, she runs into Jake, alone, at the hotel restaurant. Agness had to leave earlier when her spoiled brat of a son, who incidentally is not Jake's son, got sick. Jane and Jake agree to have dinner together instead of sitting at separate tables. They eat. They drink. They reminisce. They drink. They laugh. They have a little too much to drink and the former wife finds herself the current “other woman”.

It was hysterical! I rarely go to the movies and when I do I seldom enjoy them, but this one was so funny my sides hurt. Go see it.

‘forced’....’threatened no sex’..

Oh my. You need to RUN, not walk away from this one. Not a good sign for what’s to come if you should tie that knot.

If you're serious about your GF threatening no sex ... dump her like a hot rock NOW. Run and don't look back.

If you're joking ... it's a weird joke, but I can deal. One other thing: if she has very long fingernails, dump her. I'm a woman and I can tell you for certain sure: very long fingernails are a sign of very seriously screwed up life priorities. Unmarried gentlemen, heed my advice.

Wife and daughters dragged me to this on Christmas Day. They owe me one. Movie rolled along but went nowhere. Baldwin's character was a caricature. Streep is a great actress but she couldn't save this movie. Steve Martin's role was too small and seemed neutered. If I had to sum the movie up in one word, it would be: "Pointless".
